[I knew there was something before flag:burning, just couldn't remember what it was.] Anyway, I'd prefer to regard the Go4 as influenced by our boys on this occasion. Is this 'playing an album all the way through' idea just limited to London btw? We're getting loads of them now - I'm going to see Patti Smith do Horses next weekend. Given his commitment to African music over the years - travelling around Mali, Chad and the like - I think it's inevitable that he would be disappointed that there is so little African music at Live8. And Geldof could have stuck some more on - people would still have turned up for Coldplay and U2. As it is they will now all be stuck off down at the Eden Project in Cornwall. I am personally avoiding Geldof whenever I can in the media at present as he is irritating the hell out of me. What was all that rubbish about picking up the French by boat - how will the English Channel cope if this comes off? What happens when a small boat is hit by a bigger one? And although I've never sold a ticket on eBay in my life, even that rant irritated me - Live8 will get the money from the original sale and some of the profits from the sell-on may even find its way to them. And I can't help feeling he's missing a trick by not linking in the protest to climate change. Unless G8 does something about that pretty damn quick Africa and a lot more are going to hell in a handcart. Yes, we lack the attention span up north! >We're getting loads of them now - I'm > going to see Patti Smith do Horses next weekend. This 33-song collection has been compiled by the band and features rarities and previously unreleased material, as well as all their best-known songs. - ----------------------------------- Apparently, this came out in Europe in May - but I just heard about it when I went to allmusic.com to do some searches. I'd heard rumors about this - but this exceeds my expectations. The tracklisting looks great. Short of a reunion tour, this is the best news I've heard in a while. Also - for you gear heads out there, I hear the CD booklet contains...guitar pedal setups!!! Yes!!! Finally I can figure out how Adam Franklin got that massive sound. Cheers, Paul P.S. Yes, I've already ordered it from amazon.co.uk. Global Village yay! ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #165 *******************************
