Olivier Guindon, Vic Emerson, Philippe Drai, Simon Rogers and Mick Parker. I had a chat with one of the Neubauten list who owns the New Rose shop in Paris. I asked him who is Alain Bashung? He told me that he is quite famous in France, a good mainstream artist. There was a release of Alain Bashung once called NOVICE, with some names who collaborated with him for that release. Like Arto Lindsay, Blixa Bargeld and or own great b*st*rd Colin Newman. And now there will be 29th june a performance of Githead on Alain's evening in Citi de la Musique in Paris paris s'eveille j Tired of spam? Yahoo! When even the Tories own resident Dalek Redwood starts slagging him off for not having enough Africans onstage you have to wonder. ////// No, I thought *that* particular shot from the grassy knoll wasn't *that* much of a surprise , and had much more to do with the usual lamentable points-scoring that goes on in the political establishment, than any genuine desire, or indeed interest, on the part of Redwood in the participation of African artistes. I rather suspect that if his life depended on it, Redwood couldn't even name ONE of the artists he's supposedly championing (as opposed to the poor showing of five by myself, when you add Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambaso to the paltry three I could name last night..... ;-) ) The fact that Bob Geldof has been hob-nobbing with Tony Blair set him up on the firing range for people like John Redwood:- I have no doubt that *had* he put on a sprinkling of African acts on the bill, he would have been sniped at from those very same quarters, only he would have been accused of tokenism instead. Now please remind me: what did Redwood's party do to help matters when Live Aid was held ? And just what did they ever do to either help Africa's problems, or for that matter, push it further up the political agenda? Zip. Nada, if I recall correctly. If memory serves, they even held out against imposing sanctions on the Nazi South Afrikaan state for gawds sake, despite all and sundry in that country calling for such measures. But of course, rather too many of them (or their spouses) were happily doing business with their mining companies, so this sudden Damascene conversion to afro-centrism by JR and his ilk is just posturing. It's a cheap gesture, and an unworthy one, and in the final analysis probably has more to do with the impending party leadership election, rather than any genuine interest in the subject. >However, Bob has in many ways achieved his goal. Worldwide everyone now >knows what the G8 is about and what it could achieve. If it means putting up >with some moth eaten bands so be it, but if real change can be made then it >may genuinely be a turning point. //// Moth-eaten is about right:- for good or ill, they still sell records by the shedload: maybe it IS to people who only buy one CD every year, or want a disk to show off their new hi-fi with, but sell they undeniably do. As for raising awareness, I'd like to think it could be the turning point you speak of, but fear there will be a temporary surge of interest and enlightenment, which will sadly fade when the news agenda moves on. However, I'm not joining the queue to knock Geldof for it:- I just think he's a tad optimistic when it comes to this project, and what it could achieve. Full marks for at least trying, though. - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Agree, although I suspect the general perception of yer average Sun-reading Robbie Williams fan is that this another fundraising telethon, and has been borne of a certain nostalgia for the original Live Aid. Witness the 'Quo Must Go On' campaign. However, the event has the potential to bring about change and I think actaully on the day it might be able to get a very important political message across. This isn't about artistic integrity, it isn't about whether Damon Albarn or Radiohead are worried about being seen as 'Sell Outs' for rubbing shoulders with Sting. Its not about promoting African Music either. http://comment.independent.co.uk/low_res/story.jsp?story=647356&host=6&dir=140 Sorry Andy Kershaw but this event is aimed squarely at kids who have Crazy Frog on their mobile phones, 30something lawnmowers who buy 2 cds a year from Tescos, people who consider REM lyrics to be profound and listen to Dido when they want to chill out. The same audience who did the Radio Ga Ga clap at Live Aid. The Same audience who get in traffic jams on a bank holiday. People who have actually been to Madame Tussauds. People who never recycle anything because they can't be arsed. Its about educating Middle England, Middle Europe and Middling, bland, thick people about how badly WE are fucking up other nations. If Geldof has to put on a bit of a Circus to do it, then surely its a small price to pay. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jun 2005 06:34:29 +0100 (BST) From: Monochromatic Man Subject: [idealcopy] a good torrent site Demonoid is accepting again http://www.demonoid.com/account-signup-inv.php If you need a code please email me off list.
