(It's price tag suggests it is, but I'm not sure) When I reviewed the CD for Wireviews back in 1998 (http://www.wireviews.com/reviews/behind_the_curtain.html), I didn't think much of it, and my opinion hasn't changed. Few of the tracks unavailable elsewhere are worth your time (bar, perhaps, Underwater Experiences), and The Peel Sessions is a much better buy, despite having far fewer tracks. As for finding BTC, good luck - it's a difficult CD to track down these days, due to it not having many runs. All the other EMI discs are still in print, but BTC disappeared from shelves long ago. eBay is your best bet. Me, too. I know some folk frown on the basic rant that is Mary..., but I love it. Another fave for me is the version of Another The Letter. Sure it's not as good as the CM version, but it's interesting to see where it came from. Actually, last year I included both of these tracks on a Wire related oddities compilation for someone who has virtually all the official Wire albums, the odd Colin* and He Said albums, but not this. Here's what he said... MARY... No matter how many aeons old, with this primitive punk rant, there is no mistaking the utterly distinctive hand(s) of these particular authors. Utilising the verbal and, indeed, musical vocabulary, which, in the considerably less artful hands of the likes of Sham 69, would already begin to sound formulaic by Spring 1978, our heroes still sound like the modern world. Wire have always been able to twist and reshape incredibly original and fresh ideas out of the very simplest of ingredients. Although nothing special itself, mary holds the genetic clues as to why Wire are quite probably the most underrated, truly "Great British" band of all time. This is still more inventive than any of the fetid pap I have seen on the supposedly "alternative" music TV channels during 2004. ANOTHER... Appears to have all the sophistication of Slaughter & The Dogs, or, even the hapless Eater, but closer investigation reveals sudden, oblique turns and brutal, melodic twists, which, frankly, could only ever have emanated from one hallowed source. Mind you, he also said the following about Small Black Reptile off Manscape... Unmistakably, the work of Wire - but also strangely redolent of forgotten late-1960s English pop psychedelia (you could almost imagine Herman & His Hermits, or even Manfred Mann (esp. with Mike D'Abbo on lead vocals!) releasing covers of this). An even more pertinent comparison would be one of those ostensibly "comedic"" records The Who used to come out with from time to time - something like happy jack, with its jolly sounding pop song on the surface, only camouflaging the inevitable, inescapable MENACE lurking beneath the waves. Likewise, SBR taps into a very childlike sense of underlying horror. Sweet, yet still ferocious. The Herman Hermit influence on Wire? Actually, there's a video from circa '92 of me and my two oldest kids when they were little, dancing to the Step It Up in existence somewhere. I make my own mix cds (yes, another dj) and I am trying to make them into mp3 files in bin/cue format so people can download them quickly. How do I do this? I have Alcohol 120% and I have managed to make a bin/cue file but it is rather large. Any suggestions?
