Well, Elbow and the comedy might be alright, and I managed to survive Snow Patrol at Glastonbury last year (wanted to see Franz Ferdinand who were on afterwards, because although they're mighty derivative I was too busy toddling to listen to Josef K at the time...) I really like Elbow, actually - particularly the first record. - - Andrew ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 11:37:33 +0100 From: "Keith A" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] dates for your diary > > Get Loaded In The Park - Get Loaded in the Park, the UKbs most > > talked about new festival returns to Clapham Common on Bank Holiday > > Sunday 28th August with headliners The Happy Mondays, Stereo MCs, > > The Farm, Flowered Up, Fatboy Slim, Armand Van Helden, Howard Marks, > > Snow Patrol, Elbow, the Comedy Store and more. > > I really like Elbow, actually - particularly the first record. It's a long time ago now admittedly, but lets' not forget that the Mondays were a great band in their time. Actually, I really liked the Stereo MC's, too. I'm probably on my jack jones here, but I thought they were great! Saw them on their low-key comeback tour at Manchester's (small-ish) Academy 2 a few years back and they were really entertaining. I could watch a bloke dance like that for hours! And as Van Helden has made at least a couple of great dance singles, I'd say this festival certainly holds more appeal than, say, the VDGG re-union gig!! (It's price tag suggests it is, but I'm not sure) I personally think it's a great release. Unless there are different editions, I don't think there's any Peel Sessions included, and it's a single, 31 track disc. I don't think it would just appeal to collectors, as it's got a wide variety of released tracks and unreleased ones, and the sound is light-years better than a "guy at the back of the club with a tape recorder" type bootleg sound. Some of the released tracks are pretty similar to the album versions, and others (especially "Former Airline") bare little resemblance. I've definitely spun it a lot since I got mine! I just wonder how hard it is to come by now...it took me a few months of searching and failed online orders when I got it around 1998 (before I was using eBay at least), so now it could be an even greater challenge. Unless I'm mistaken though, all of the tracks on it are available on the Japanese pressings of the EMI albums, but I don't know that definitively. - -- Creaig ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 20:18:51 +0200 From: "Glenn & Cecile" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] dates for your diary > I'd say this festival certainly holds more appeal than, say, the VDGG re-union gig!! Not too bad actually, unlike The Fall they played the game, and even kick-started the 'jam' session that opens the show with some hamfisted droning which the rest of the bands struggled to play along with..(should have done a burst of Sister Ray instead) Two forgettable songs from the new LP... Including Barney's most Spinal-Tap lyric (which is saying something) "They've got violence, wars and killing too All shrunk down in a two-foot tube But out there the world is a beautiful place With mountains, lakes and the human race" a reasonably spirited 'Transmission' slightly ruined by that new guitar bloke adding power chords where Bernards stark guitar lead should have been left to weave its sinewy path. Coral weren't bad either, Rufus W. clearly used up all his good songs on Want One. And who was the c**t James Blunt who Elton John recommended to be on the show (presumably cos he sounds like EJ at his most Lion Kingly?)
