A few did leave, but no more than a dozen, tops, at least from where I was sitting. And probably as likely due to the terrible feedback that was plaguing the sound - where was the sound man all this time, I wondered? The Wobble/Jansen groove did lend it a similar feel to some of what Wobble did on Eno's 'Spinner', if that's any clue. Probably more Can-like really. I'm not sure it will ever be released though, due to the rather piercing feedback that was present. It was quite something to see so many of my favourites on stage in the one place and so clearly with some affection for Budd, who was very understated. Quite something for someone to decide, ok that's it, enough, and withdraw. The first half of the set saw Budd play a few selections from Avalon Sutra though. And the lighting by Russel Mills was simple yet beautiful. Japan's Steve Jansen began improvising on gong, after 5 minutes Robin Guthrie blended in. Budd himself joined and Bill Nelson (Beebop DeLuxe), then the Balanescu Quartet. Only after 20 minutes or so Jah Wobble & Steve Jansen added a tightly played bass/drum base beneath the mega-drone. Apparently by this time the crowd was devided in those who either were in total ecstasy (my brother) or those who left or covered their ears in shock (his wife). He also said it brought the layeredness of Wire III to mind... right, like I would fall for that one. Probably just wants his named mentioned again on our beloved list ;-) Anyway, the survivers gave a standing ovation after which Budd just smiled a bit and left without an encore. Seems a stunning way to end your career! Doesn't sound anything like his last and (again) very friendly album Avalon Sutra (recently released on David Sylvian's Samadhi Sound label, see below). H. pylori damages stomach and duodenal tissue, causing ulcers. Previously called Campylobacter pylori.<< Which would explain the bleeding, I've been put on a 2 week doseage of 'Prevpac', which is lansoprazole/amoxicillin and clarithromycin twice a day before meals, if that doesn't do the trick it means I have ulcers, but at this stage it's 'possible' that I don't,that the bacterium are a sign I'm 'about' to get ulcers: thus the medication.
