I saw them probably four times first time round and was not at all disappointed on this occasion - they had power, energy and a great set. David's experience in Chicago is baffling. Well...I thought they were excellent when I saw them in Jan. The Manchester gig was one of the first of the reformed gigs and - having not seen them before - I did wonder if the other IC-ers who had seen them 1st time round were gonna say "Bloody hell, Keith. Get a grip. They're nowhere near as good as they used to be". But the reaction seemed to be really positive all round. They GO4 might be 20-odd years older, but they played with a real intensity. They played the 'hits', but this wasn't cabaret - it was a great gig. I think you'll really regret it if you don't go, Paul. It was well worth my hour drive to Manchester. One of those bands that you couldn't help but love, for combining integrity and warmth and intelligence and memorable songs and great musicianship with genuine, almost fan-like modesty. One of those bands that you could really believe in. I vividly recall seeing them at the Zap Club in Brighton, when they were dragged back for SEVEN encores. Because we were aware that they might never be back, that we should wring everything possible from the night before it ended. And, sure enough, that was (as far as I know) their last UK tour. Much missed. Cheers, ig. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 May 2005 14:18:10 -0400 From: steve ninehouser Subject: [idealcopy] Lorries Tab? Not a great performance, and the song is an Electronic B-Side at best but I thought they made a rather endearing hash of it, rather than a total embaressment. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #130 *******************************
