They played just day after MC5, so they attracted 300 people, but Ted was very happy with attendence. Regular set was about 50 minutes, and then crowd was so impressed with them that encore lasted two times longer...it was just once encore, Ted told audince-we will play song by song, you said when it will be enough..brilliant!! They have some london fans with them followed them on tour, and they said that belgrade gig was best in last 15 years..shame we didn't recorded... fantastic!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 02:36:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Fergus Kelly Subject: [idealcopy] Dyslexia rules single KO ))) God, yeah.. how could I forget BLURT. Only saw them once, in The Africa Centre in Covent Garden in 1985 (they never played Dublin), the same week I saw Neubauten in ULU. Both outrageous gigs. Real watershed moments.<< Never saw "late" Blurt - presume the 85 line-up featured the bloke out of the Photos (improbably!) The original line-up circa 80 was fabulous - Ted, his brother Jake on drums (Jake had been in proggy/fusion type bands and had the tightest snare drum sound I've ever heard) ))) The brother was the drummer alright. Really intense guy. Bolt upright staring straight ahead, never missing a beat. The crack of his snare was indeed a fine and beautiful thing (I'm a big fan of super-tight snares... the piccolo snares are THE best) Kinda funny that I should misspell the Blurt song title (of all things !).. should have been spelt - dyslexia and the fantastic, cadaverous Peter Creese on guitar - who Ted introduced as "Mr Peter Creese - the human loop". Which is as accurate a description as you'd hear. He just played the same riff over and over, unchangingly, throughout most of the songs, while Jake played round him and Ted, er, blurted over the top. Stunning stuff. Saw them play a tiny pub in Birmingham. ))) Could've been Crease on guitar.. the name sounds very familiar.. Let's not forget Ted played sax with Wire on Former Airline in the Garage in 2000, which, unfortunately I missed as I was at the first night of the residency (he played the sunday I think..). The rest of the weekend I was at the LMC festival in The South Bank, where I saw sets by Lee Renaldo/William Hooker/Gert-Jan Prins, Charles Hayward (my photos on Flickr), Die Trip Computer Die, David Toop/Frank Perry/Jin Hi Kim, Toshimaru Nakamura, Steve Beresford/Anna Homler/Richard Saunderson, Haco, amongst others (I'll eventually get the rest of the photos online). It took a little time to get used to after having listened for years to Tatiana Nikolayeva's near ultimate version, but now I rate them both as excellent. Speaking fugues, I've been searching for some time now for a great (piano) version of one of Bach's latest works The Art of the Fugue. Anyone has any suggestions? I'm a huge fan of Glenn Gould, but I only know of a harpsichord version by him. Did he make a piano version as well? Bart > Jarrett's album of Shostakovich Fugues is nothing short of astounding.
