I notice that he played a few tracks by Saul Williams. I hadn't heard him until I saw List of Demands on last weeks 120 Mins. Liked it a lot. Is it typical? The other thing I really enjoyed was Oh Baeuer by Jean Team. Very early 80's electro and hugely enjoyable for those of us like that sort of thing! Hi everyone, I just picked up Moby's "Teany Book". It's a book he wrote with Kelly Tisdale, his business partner in Teany. It's got fun vegan recipies, a lot of tea, and some Moby humor. (If you read his web journal, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.) He also lists the song playlists that Teany uses throughout the day. And, wouldn't you know it, Wire makes the list for the night-time crowd. He mentions that the late night music depends on the crowd: "We want our customers to feel comfortable here, [so] we wouldn't play a calming string quartet album if the crowd was feeling frisky, and we wouldn't play a Judas Priest album if people were trying to be romantic (even though drinking tea to Judas Priest is actually pretty sexy)." The Wire album? Chairs Missing. What kind of night would that be, I wonder? (^_^) One thing I appreciate about Moby and Teany is that you don't see his own music listed in the song playlists. Apparently, the only rule firm rule in Teany is that "Moby's music shall never be played in Teany." He gives a number of reasons for this, but the main reason seems to be that Moby doesn't want Teany to be a "celebrity owned" restaurant. I've been collecting old quad lps the last couple of months. EMI was really big into this for a while. Any quad Wire anybody aware of? This would be a great find! I haven't had much luck finding anything really cool. The typical lot of Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, John Lennon... but I did find Walter (Wendy) Carlos, Bruce Subotnik and a lot of strange Moog sampler lps... It's been some months now since the last Blue Nile album was released, and though there was a flurry of excitement on these pages beforehand, I don't recall reading much in the way of a response afterwards. I only got my copy a couple of months ago, and as is often the way with the BN, it initially washed all over me without sinking in. But just as I was thinking that maybe it wasn't going - that maybe it just wasn't very good - it's all started to make sense. I love the opening Days Of Our Lives, I Would Never has a nice I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For spiritual feel, She Saw The World is probably as rousing as the BN are ever gonna get, and I find Stay Close, the lengthy closing track, genuinely moving. So, another winner in my book. Anyone else? I only saw him once, at the LMC festival in 1997, when he was part of ROOF with Phil Minton Luc Ex and Michael Vatcher. An absolute standout gig, and one of the highlights of the festival. I couldn't sit still afterwards. I have some photos of that set, which I'll put up on Flickr when I get a chance. Fergus __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
