I suspect there might be a few disappointed folk here. The COCTEAU TWINS have pulled out of their headlining performance at CALIFORNIA's COACHELLA festival. The Scottish outfit were due to reunite for the event's opening day (April 30), but a statement was released by festival bosses last night saying that the reunion will now not take place as member Elizabeth Fraser has pulled out. The statement reads: "It is with regret that Cocteau Twins announce they will not be performing at the Coachella Valley Music Festival on April 30 as had ben planned. Due to personal reasons, member Elizabeth Fraser has decided that she is unable to participate in the reunion, and apologies for any inconvenience that this has caused." The group were expected to announce other festival appearances in the coming weeks. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 07:35:35 EST From: VltCrumble@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] re Three Years!! 3 years to make the upcoming New Order album! Haven't heard my copy of duckstab/buster for years as my vinyl collection remains in the attic. I've always found that the Residents tend to disappoint on repeated listenings. Pity. Slates could be the best Fall album but see above. I have a soft spot for Dragnet too - the nicely remastered CD is worth having. Ironic that M E Smith has been critical of CD re-releases when he benefits as much as anyone. B In a message dated 3/16/05 6:02:09 AM, P.Wilson@bury.gov.uk writes: > > 1. The person who bellowed 'Bollocks' at the end of their first 'number' was my mate Ben, who was sat next to me at the time. I shouted for 'We are detective' at the end - would have been a most appropriate encore. Evidently quite a few people had actualy gone along to see them rather than anyone else. Amazing. I'm afraid I am not all that excited by Githead. 'To have and to hold' is marvellous, but much of the rest of their stuff dosen't really hit the spot for me, at least it's not done yet. I love Duck Stab, but actually I'm with Paul - I put Not Available as number one selection for the Residents. The songs have a lot of weight to them; and - I don't know - the whole thing is very cohesive, subtly conceptual (that's a change), and emotionally gripping. It's almost like a special freak episode in the Residents' travels. Hence, the title. Joren On Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 04:30 AM, idealcopy-digest wrote: >> 1. Excellent! Even Newman's 'Look at me, I'm on the telly' animation. The Barbican stuff's been tampered with, as the previously out-of-sync vocal screen has been tightened to fit. I see this is a positive thing. Not sure if it's been commented on before, but is it general that on some shots on the Triptych show, the top of the shot has been sliced off and appears at the foot of the screen, or is it just ny disc/player? Anybody know what the Wire projects that Colin is working on as alluded to in the manager's message in the Bruce Gilbert furore are? - ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith A To: Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2005 12:13 AM Subject: [idealcopy] Scottish Play > Got my copy today which was AMAZINGLY quick. Full-length album release dates from two of my favorites: Nine Inch Nails - 1989, 1994, 1999, 2005 Tool - 1993, 1996, 2001, (No news yet on the next one) I don't understand how they can get away with it. Five years is a lifetime in popular music. New Order have fallen down the trap of getting too many producers in again, when their best stuff was always self-produced and sounded like it could all fall apart at any minute. Not heard it yet, didn't like the single at all. Is Peter Savilles sleeve some witty comment on the contents of the album? Its the word 'No' rendered in a rather derivative, old-hat factory style. Wire are one of the few bands who managed to come back with the same spirit and attitude intact. I wonder if that is anything to do with the fact that Wire probably snorted a lot less coke than New Order have over the last 15 years or so? Maybe Wilson was right.... Well i'd rather they didn't come back at all than come back crap. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #73 ******************************
