Firstly, my comments were never meant to be either. I was really just expressing my own heart-felt views. Am sorry if that jangles some people. I only found out about Bruce's news the same time as everyone else. I phoned him a) as a social call and b) to confirm the news. I knew he had been unhappy for sometime but not to what extent. Thats all I can say on the matter. I do not claim to be an unofficial spokesperson. I am just reporting what I know. Again, apologies for stepping on some people's sensitivities. One thing that did occur to me though is that maybe it should be viewed that Wire is the side project theya ll do and that their real work is making the solo and collbaorative things they do. If you tot up the years they have worked away from each other then it makes sense. Looking at it like that you could say that Rob is a farmer who occasionaly drums with Wire. Anyway, back to my bunker. Keep my head down. It should be noted that the passage on Mike Thorne's site and Kevin's subsequent posts/emails came as rather a surprise to Paul Smith, Wire's manager. The reason Wireviews didn't post anything is because no news was provided from Wire. Once something was known in an official sense (i.e. Paul's statement), I immediately posted a news article to the site and alerted this list. It was certainly not my intention nor Paul's to leave anyone in the darkas I said, this entire episode came as something of a surprise to everyone. As for the "he and Wireviews" line with regards to Kevin, I take it everyone here knows that he "left" Wireviews well over a year ago now, and has had nothing to do with the site? (This is why during 2004 I scouted around for help with the site, a position now more than ably currently filled by Fergus Kelly.) Although it would be fair to say that I don't post everything I know to Wireviews, the important stuff does go up there, and usually in a timely manner. If it turns out that Wire is *officially* a dead project, and I get confirmation of that fact from the relevant sources, I will of course post that information on the site and to this list. This is a mailing list for fans of the Wire so what do you expect? Some slight over-reactions I agree (although hardly Michael Jackson-style blinkered fandom), but remember these are the same fans who have lined your pockets by buying your book, and the WMO discs. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2005 09:22:02 -0800 (PST) From: Derek White Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Happy Chirpy Inital Post (A Serious Of Andrews) Hello Andrew:- Hope you enjoy yourself hereabouts......... I noticed (though I didn't think about it much) that Robert wasn't all that sociable, but Bruce was quite pleasant. Graham and Colin, obviously to me, were the most socially accessible. Wire, for their artsy leanings, come off in person as wonderfully grounded, down-to-earth gentlemen. Someones offered to sell me a Pod Line 6 2.0 Guitar FX (i.e. the weird looking red box that Colin twiddles with during gigs) Quite tempted, and pretty good price. Anyone got one? Opinions? I'm tempted mainly because it looks cool, and I want something thats better than my cheap Zoom Multi FX. I'm not a purist, nor looking for close replication of vintage FX, Just looking for good, solid sounds, and a few knobs to twiddle with on stage . sounds pretty good on 'The Scottish Play' (although that might be the new upgraded version Colins playing with I can't tell). Over to you gear heads out there! ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #56 ******************************
