Interesting comments to make Kevin, I will remember them the next time some sort of configuration arises from the Wire boys (perhaps 'IRE') or any other once great act, whose sell-by date has perhaps passed, while the sub-standard product continues to trickle out. Not saying this is the case with Wire, as their recent releases and tours have been top notch, but I consider myself among the numerous fans - who have long supported many a band by purchasing the crap alongside the quality - so sometimes you don't just "get over it" - you ponder, debate, question and hope for some small appreciation for purchases made along the way... - - Robert Jaz - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------------------- > Slightly amused at some IC-ers comments about Bruce's departure. I am your friend. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Feb 2005 07:36:39 -0800 (PST) From: Wireviews Subject: [idealcopy] My final words on the Bruce/Wire thing... I thought it might be useful to post again to the list regarding the rumours/hearsay regarding Bruce and Wire. I'm not going to post anything else to the list regarding this, and you can take anything I've posted as you will. I'm well aware that there's some ambiguity in the statements so far officially released, but that's pretty typical for Wire. Kevin's statements rather disappointed me, largely due to their ill-mannered and somewhat smug nature. Although he has some kind of "insider" status, notably a friendship with Bruce, said status is not really any more "insider" than mine (or Fergus's for that matter, with him now helping out with Wireviews). Rather than post my own views of what has happened over the past couple of years, I'm instead going to post Paul's statement, which, as I understand it, was supposed to be circulated anyway. To some extent, you'll need to read between the lines, but it provides a more total picture of what the current situation of the band actually is: - --- My thoughts on this are thus... To my sure and certain knowledge all four band members remain on the company payroll... but if Bruce's cheques start coming back uncashed I'll be sure to let you all know via our official website. This being WIRE, I have, for the last five years, kept an active file titled "WIRE: Class Attendance 2000 >" which does, regrettably, get regularly updated with new entries on the comings and goings of WIRE members to and from the mothership. No prizes alas... yours could be the last entry... if that's what you hope for? Bruce IS coming up to his sixtieth birthday soon and his health declined substantially last year, so it would be true to say WIRE have no touring plans whatsoever in the forseeable future, but this is spectacularly usual for them and decidedly unnewsworthy. We have just web-released and are about to put into general distribution a new DVD release, "The Scottish Play", from the band's highly acclaimed 2004 Tryptych Festival live shows. The stresses and strains, glories and stories of being WIRE are so very well documented herein specifically for your studious attentions and detailed scrutiny Colin Newman remains shackled to his mixing desk on a selection of WIRE duties but is, simultaneously, launching the first album by his new GITHEAD project, which has, as per usual already set the rumour mill of WIRE's demise in motion earlier this month.
