In April 2004 Wire was invited to play the Triptych festival in Scotland. This is held across 3 cities (Aberdeen, Edinburgh & Glasgow) annually and is blessed with a huge & diverse roster. Wire took this opportunity to bring along a camera & recording crew to enable film maker Tom Gidley to put together an intense documentary style reading of the send/ read & burn set with which Wire have delighted audiences across Europe, North America, Japan & Australasia. Gidleys speciality is the closely observed detail and given the intensity of the performance (from the tramway theatre in Glasgow) the resulting film is quite unlike a TV rock show more a stark and incisive reading of the band in performance from very close quarters. The full set including encores is covered and also included on the additional CD (all audio mixed by Colin Newman at Swim studio) TRACKLISTING 99.9/ Germ Ship/ Mr. Marxs Table/ 1st Fast/ Read & Burn/ The Agfers of Kodack/ Comet/ In the art of Stopping/ Spent/ I dont Understand/ Strange/ 106 Beats That/ Surgeons Girl/ Pink Flag In addition to the Triptych Festival material there is included a bonus section of a sampler via Observation Camera #1 of 4 pieces from the 2nd Half of Wires infamous Flag: Burning performance at the Barbican, London in April 2003 Showing Es Devlins amazing stage set. FEATURED TRACKS 1st Fast/ Comet/ Spent/ I Dont Understand This audio is NOT featured on the accompanying CD. As part of this release (priced at a very reasonable #15.00 plus postage) Pinkflag is also pleased to announce the reinstatement of the customary exclusive free gift to accompany all posteverything sales of this item. Bundled with each purchase of WIRE The Scottish Play : 2004 will be a pinkflag enamel badge. You know you want one! Pinkflag is planning a series of releases in audio & visual formats from both studio & live from the labels vast archives spanning the history of wire between 1976 and 2004. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi list, I am looking for someone who would be interesting in helping me out with "It's All In The Brochure" and "The Third Day" plus a few side project releases. If anyone is interested in a trade, please let me know by emailing me. I don't have too much very rare Wire stuff, but I do have a large music collection including lots of rare stuff by other artists that might be of interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I only caught half their set, so I (presumably) missed their rather nifty Be My Enemy single, but most of the material was in the same vein. They were a really uncool looking band - the bassist had that elbow in the sky posture that someone like Mark King might adopt and the guitarist went to stand on the monitor and slipped. At least he saw the funny side! The singer's a funny looking frontman - going for an Ian Curtis look maybe? - but he hasn't got a bad set of tonsils on him. Musicially, there were lots of slashing guitars and fairly big chorus's resulting in an effect not unlike the Gang of Four playing the works of Duran Duran. They were like a modern day Then Jerico without the good looking singer. Shit. I'm not selling them very well here, am I? But.... I kinda liked them! ; ) K. np Holy McGrail - smashed amps and sunn guitars ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 13:57:09 -0000 From: "Keith Astbury" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Highland fling > Pinkflag are proud to announce the 2nd in our DVD + CD > series this one as bang up to date as the previous on > the box was historic. This sounds excellent. A real bargain, too. I've lost my PF badge, so that's cool, too! > Pinkflag is planning a series of releases in audio & > visual formats from both studio & live from the > labels vast archives spanning the history of wire > between 1976 and 2004. Great. But where does that leave Wire 3, R&B3, etc??? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 14:01:28 -0000 From: "Tear Alistair (ST)" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Highland fling Keith... > I've lost my PF badge, so that's cool, too! It's good every so often to have a right old guitar rawk wig-out... (but then I liked the support band Comets on Fire who had most of the audience running to the bar) I hadn't heard any of the new stuff from Citizen Cain'd and it's not at the top of my shopping list...but he's a great showman for sure, walking through the audience from the off and at one stage, worryingly, sitting on the edge of the balcony with a drop which would have meant serious injury or death... almost a touch of music hall in the german helmet business in Reynard the Fox... and playing a short set *before* the support band was a first for me...when Copey says 7.30, he means it. So, not my favourite JC gig, but a damn fine night out later A > > > I was talking to two young guys > > after the Julian Cope gig who actually knew > > that my PF badge was a Wire thing rather than > > meaning I'm glad to be gay...:-) > > What did you make of the gig, A? > > ************************************************************************* The contents of the e-mail and any transmitted files are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. It's highly recommended anyway - a perfect vehicle for Johnny Vegas at his most disillusioned and shambolic, with a wonderful cast of misfits and ne'erdowells coming and going throughout - but all the better for a bit of Wire.... Repeated on BBC3 at various times throughout the week, anyway. Cheers, ig. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #26 ******************************
