Any views > on the latter, ATK? well here's an off topic footie comment...Mr. Ronaldo from Manchester United is a complete sissy and i'm sick of looking at him (and his over-used step-over move) ... AND speaking ManU, Liverpool's keeper ought to be ashamed of himself for giving up such a SOFT goal in the Liverpudlian's 1-0 loss to the Red Devils.... AND, my local pro Indoor Footie club: The St. Louis Steamers just pulled off an obnoxious (and obvious) publicity stunt by signing a 24 year old girl to the team....she was signed solely on the basis of being a girl and it WILL boost ticket sales (for a short time) because of the novelty....she didn't even have to try out (which angers me because i tried out for the team and was told that i was good enough but not fast enough)... read the article here: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2005-01-20-misl-steamers_x.htm APOLOGIES FOR THE OFF TOPIC POST.. RL ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2005 19:07:27 -0000 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Payrolled Darn fine film Heavens Gate - only got its bad rep because of the sheer amount of money it cost which meant by the time it was released the press were out to get it. It was never likely to be a big success though because it is very long and slow, paced similar to the first hour of The Deer Hunter which, of course, was such a success that Cimino was given carte blanche to do what he wanted. I've read the book by the producer too, which is something of a hatchet job. The truncated version of the film should be avoided at all costs though. For the uninitiated, the idea is that a bunch of venues in Camden (sleazy North London hellhole inexplicably regarded as trendy by teenagers, rock stars and William Gibson in the otherwise impeccable 'Pattern Recognition') put on bands on the same night, you pay one entrance fee, get a wristband and stagger from venue to venue. It was a regular annual fixture for a few years in the mid-90s where I saw such delights as Tiger, (whose classic B Side, 'Time Tunnel Cellar' - "I've a Time Tunnel Cellar / Connected to the House / It's powered by the weather / and Our luck is in" - I'd defend against all-comers), Ligament, Jack, Seafood, China Drum and other bands that no-one can remember anything about. Each evening ended at the Camden Ballroom for a name act, who unfortunately included Echo and the Bunnymen and Moby during his rock phase, both of which were dreadful. Still, as a night out it can hardly be beaten because you have to treat it like a military exercise - if I leave here now will I be able to get into the Dublin Castle to see Groop Dogdrill given that it only holds 150, it's raining and I've already had four pints and will need a wee en route? This year's goes on to 3am which is a frankly terrifying prospect. Impressive looking line-up, though. Already announced are: * 10 Thousand Things * Amusement Parks On Fire * Art Brut * The Black Velvets * Clor * The Cribs * The Departure * Do Me Bad Things * Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster * The Go! Team * Gravenhurst * Hard-Fi * Hot Chip * The Infadels * Kaito * The Kooks * Longcut * Ludes * The Magic Numbers * The Chalets * Maximo Park * Nine Black Alps * The Research * Sons & Daughters * The Subways * Towers Of London All these (well, those which don't clash) for fifteen quid and you get a CD thrown in for free.
