It's a bit odd at first watching the singer sing for a bit, wander behind the drums (where he REALLY excels) before returning to sing a few more bars as a drum machine keeps the beat going, but it's a fairly novel approach. Definitely worth catching next time they tour if you wanna see a young act thrash away to their hearts content.<< There's a video too, which was shown on MTV2's 120 Minutes last week, in which the drummer/vocalist does indeed step out from behind the kit to sing. Lonmgcut CD has been a real grower for me - in fact the weakest element is the vocals. I've also seen them being, er, bigged up by Tony Wilson. So that's career death then ;-) Mark ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 2004 05:14:48 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] To Have And To Hold >>Does someone else know more great whispering recordings? I'd go for the Minutemen meself. Who's playing with them these days I wonder ? Got some nice shots of Shellac which 'll get up on Flickr in the not-to-distant. Wednesday is the Minutemen. I'm nearly *sure* it was used on the soundtrack to Micheal Mann's 'Manhunter', the film that got re-cycled as 'Red Dragon'....... Definitely worth catching next time they tour if you wanna see a young act thrash away to their hearts content. >> there are several reviews up on the 'Sponge from an act called The Fire Show. this was a 2 piece band consisting of the drummer and guitarist from an old Chicago shoegazery act called Number One Cup. the first time i saw them they had hired a drummer and a bassist (the old No 1 Cup drummer now singing), but the second time they did something similar -- he would sit at his kit, play a few measures into a sort of looping pedal/device, then when he had a loop he liked set up, he would stop drumming and go play guitar/bass/keys over it. all the while the other guy was hammering away at his guitar making a racket. very cool to see that Longcut are keeping that sort of idea going. anyway, saw a bit of a conncetion there, and i never miss the chance to mention The Fire Show. highly recommended.
