This was my first Wire purchase, back in 1989, and, in the way of first band purchases, this one always feels like home. "German Shepherds", in particular, is a brilliant track as it appears on IBTABA. "The Offer" has a real John Hughes 80's movie type of sound unlike most of Wire's material, but I've always been partial to it as well. I like the version of "Finest Drops" on IBTABA better than on A Bell Is A Cup... I find it interesting that IBTABA is not regarded as highly as most Wire albums. For all of you here, how does this album stand with respect to your other Wire albums. It's always been a favorite of mine, up there with the first three albums. Jason P.S. While attending a Skinny Puppy show in Atlanta this past week, I ran into someone with a Wire T-shirt from their 2002 tour and asked him about it. It turns out that he had also attended the Echo Lounge show and considers Wire to be his favorite band. We didn't have much time to talk and I'm not sure if he's on this mailing list, but, if so, good to see a fellow fan. _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? Here's a couple that brought a smile to my face. MADONNA (1987) "Thank you and hello, London" she improvised. "England" she added helpfully. "Are you going to make this a night to remember for me?" she asked. With 4 children at my side and a #64 hole in my bank balance, I murmured something to the effect that we were paying her to make this a night to remember for *us*". SHIRLEY BASSEY (1988) Hving assured us of her intention to take us on a trip down memory lane, Shirley expressed the wish that out favourite song would be performed, stirring in my breat the lunatic hope that she would tackle Teenage Kicks... Probably prefer it to Ideal Copy myself. As you say, German Shepherds is brilliant. One of my very fave Wire tracks. Mine too, but having first purchased IBTABA on cassette, I don't tend to remember it overall too fondly; a few good tracks marred by a completely tedious side 2 ("Illuminated", "Boiling Boy", "Over Theirs"). "In Vivo" and "The Offer" are stunning, but in my mind they will forever be bonus tracks, thus a credit to the album itself. a ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2004 22:08:19 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] It's Beginning To And Back Again ibtaba was one of the first wire albums i bought on cd and is a sometimes fave of mine. finest drops and public place are fantastic. - -paul c.d. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2004 03:14:14 +0000 (GMT) From: Monochromatic Man Subject: [idealcopy] Re: It's Beginning To And Back Again and again It is one of mine as well.
