Have the IC posse not bothered getting it yet, or has just not tickled their fancy? . It's very Colin - I'm tempted to say think early CN LP's with more of a beat, and there's also some of that lovely chiming guitar that featured on Wire Mk2 records - Ya mean chiming , like the intro to 'Kidney Bingoes' sorta thing? As for Githead, I too thought the contents would lean towards the shouty, thrashy end of things, too. I must admit to neither having heard nor chased down this disk myself, yet. I tend to approach Wire side projects with a bit of caution, as IMHO not all examples thereof have been unalloyed triumphs, and some of them (eg Bruce's more avant-garde efforts) leave me cold. Having said that, the *only* 'solo' stuff I currently own are Colin's 'A-Z' and 'Not to', so you might just have stirred my curiosity there, Keith. vote.yahoo.com - Register online to vote today! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2004 09:38:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Ari Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Headgit > > I tend to approach Wire side projects with a bit of caution, as IMHO not all examples thereof have been unalloyed triumphs, and some of them (eg Bruce's more avant-garde efforts) leave me cold. BTW if anyone out there hasn't got the C.N Dusseldorf interview (playable on quicktime) and would like a burn, drop me a line.Ari ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 2004 23:55:59 +0100 From: Mark McQuitty Subject: [idealcopy] Githead >>>Keith Astbury" >>>Subject: [idealcopy] Headgit >>> >>>There seems to have been a muted response to this Githead debut so far - I've been thinking about this. I've had real problems loving this disc as much as I wanted to. I really don't think that the semi-spoken-word delivery works that well with Colins voice. That mans voice has a natural melody that he should not hide. One of Wires strong points is the oblique lyric delivered with a killer melody. Sadly I couldn't find that in the Githead stuff. Also, what's up with those rhythm tracks? First off, giving the rhythm track an identity is a touch eighties, and the tracks themselves don't hold the interest that other stuff they've done does. So I guess basically I would say Githead OK but it's not a patch on Immersion. The second Immersion CD is still a major fave of mine. Still looking forward to R&B3. And hoping for more melodic vocals. My opinion only I stress, but shouty just isn't all that interesting. Give me the classic melody of an 'Outdoor Miner' anyday. Happy to be corrected on any of this, Cheers, MarkM ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V7 #300 *******************************
