If we and Morrissey both live to get to the show, it will redeem one of the truly awful moments (among many) of '92, when we had tickets for Morrissey's only other Nashville show ever, and our alternator gave during the drive out to the Opry House. Keep your fingers crossed. >> ouch! i saw Moz on that tour, at the Fox. he was ... okay. his new album seems more energetic, so i bet he is better these days... i dunno. the ATL show isn't sold out yet, as far as i can tell, and i may yet splurge and go. << BTW, tonight's appearance -- brown/red flannel overshirt, plain yellow t-shirt, olive khakis. Dark hair, goatee, no glasses tonight, and in an unsafe weight division. >> hmmm... we all seem to be pudgy dark haired guys. wierd coincidence. my clothing for the day: brown jeans, chuckie all-blacks, long-sleeved dark blu t-shirt under blue/white fins checked oxford, olive-drab shoulder bag slathered in buttons. dark hair, goatee, no glasses. << At the Nashville Pixies show there were no XXL shirts, meaning that neither I nor Black Francis could actually wear any of them! >> ha! don't you hate that. << Saw them open for local faves the Features earlier this year... sorry, but they were a big "ehhh" for me, just like Paper Lions opening for the Fall last year. Maybe I'm just not on the same page with the Atlanta rock scene. >> well, i don;t think they are the greatest band, but Dustin (bassist) is a really fun guy, and i hang out with him. the shorter of the 2 redheads i will eb with tonight, Tracy, is _really_ into the band. i have seen them put on really great, fun shows (usually when Dustin is high as a kite and their emergency backup drummer is there rather thant he normal drummer), and i have also been unimpressed by some shows.... it'll be great to met you guys tonight! I'm really not free for pre-show dinners. I don't know when we'll get away today, and we might get to the ATL just in time for the Pixies tonight (damn that losing an hour going into Eastern Time!), so I wouldn't feel confident about making a plan for tonight. As for Friday, we're meeting an old friend (who's passing on these shows!?! fer shame!) for dinner before MoB. > > However, this is where we'll be at the Fox tonight if anyone wants to stop by: > > Section LLF, Row BB, Seats 49 & 51 > > As for MoB, we should be reasonably early. I don't know what I'll be wearing yet (maybe a repeat of the Stax shirt, since it worked so well at the Fall show in 2003?), but I'll alert the masses beforehand. Have the IC posse not bothered getting it yet, or has just not tickled their fancy? I got my copy a few days back and I have to say it's been on heavy rotation in Astbury Towers this week. It's totally different to what I expected. I thought with a name like Githead we'd be getting some really SHOUTY thrashy stuff, and though that R&B guitar sound features heavily, it's much more melodic than most of the Mk3 Wire. It's very Colin - I'm tempted to say think early CN LP's with more of a beat, and there's also some of that lovely chiming guitar that featured on Wire Mk2 records - Fake Corpses has a similar feel to A Serious of Snakes. Nice pumping basslines, too. I like it a lot - in fact, I'd go as far as saying it's one of the most enjoyable things I've heard this year. What's more I think Malka Spigels My Pet Fish is really good on initial listens. I didn't have this so this is a great freebie as far as I'm concerned. The Fishes & The Shining Sea, which I already knew, is of course marvellous, but otherwise I particularly like the eastern flavoured opener One. All in all, Bargain of the year!!
