As you say, it's not going to make you want to listen, just appreciate the craft, then move on to something more....um....satisfying. You're probably right in saying MB (not Mark with a 'K' ;-) ) was probably a better guitar-mangler than he got credit for:- as a 'for instance' I cite the wig-out at the tail end of "Elemental Child" as evidence, m'lud:- *that* type of thing, however, doesn't seem to me to be what he was trying to be recognised for. As regards the offshore accounts that Gloria and Rolan can't track down, that surely is a travesty, and if it's discoverered that the serried ranks of accountants and bankers whom Bolan entrusted with his cash have been getting fat off it whilst denying his rightful heirs, then they should be hung up by the ******** and ********.with a****** the ******g b******[continues page 94] ...... ps:- Keith: Guess YOU saw "Who got Bolan's millions", too the other week ;-) Keith Astbury wrote: > Telegram Sam? If you're only on page 3 of Bert Weedon's "Play in a day" , perhaps not. But to anyone with the three-chord trick down (abridged versions at that), and a moderate sense of timing , I'd suggest 'easy' covers it. However, I'll agree that's hardly the point. Exactly. Since when have we on these pages been obsessed by musicianship? I can be impressed by great musicianship, but it doesn't mean I wanna listen to it! There has to be something more. Having said all that I saw MB live on a couple of occasions and he was better than some people give him credit for, but as you say, that's hardly the point. And of course I love him and it's only the fact that he's dead and I'm a bloke that stops me wanting to marry him ; ) > In fairness, MB himself didn't think he was a guitar maestro........'star', perhaps.;-) > > He certainly wasn't a financial genius. Ask Gloria.......:-( Well that's a really shitty situation. Someone *somewhere* is getting very rich from all these off-shore investments and his family aren't seeing it. It can't be right, can it. I'm the big guy with black hair who will probably be wearing a green button shirt. Tonight before the Pixies show, a friend and I are probably going to be meeting at the Bridgetown Grill across from Fox Theatre before the show, but I'm not 100% sure on this. Also not too sure when I get out of work tomorrow afternoon, but I'll probably be early to the MOB show. Looking forward to seeing y'all. For the rest of the month: I'll be at the Morrissey show next week, the Skinny Puppy show* the week after that, and at Interpol at the beginning of November. * The Masquerade will be closing its doors in the not-too-distant future, so I wanted to get the "industrial band at the Masquerade" experience just one more time. Unrelated note: I got the new Rhino Records box set, Left Of The Dial: Dispatches From The 80's Underground this week...most of us already own many of the songs from the set, but it's an excellent compilation nonetheless. I'm really not free for pre-show dinners. I don't know when we'll get away today, and we might get to the ATL just in time for the Pixies tonight (damn that losing an hour going into Eastern Time!), so I wouldn't feel confident about making a plan for tonight. As for Friday, we're meeting an old friend (who's passing on these shows!?! fer shame!) for dinner before MoB. However, this is where we'll be at the Fox tonight if anyone wants to stop by: Section LLF, Row BB, Seats 49 & 51 As for MoB, we should be reasonably early. I don't know what I'll be wearing yet (maybe a repeat of the Stax shirt, since it worked so well at the Fall show in 2003?), but I'll alert the masses beforehand. Listening to my copy in the car today, I noticed the chorus vocal from 'Single KO' is audible during 'Mercy', the following track-anyone else noticed this? From about 1:48 to 2:00, where it quiets down for the second verse. Some sort of mastering flaw perhaps. It's also on the DVD. I emailed the site about this - they said the master was in worse condition than this to start off with - there may have even been the odd bum note corrected (!) - but there were some glitches that they couldn't get rid of. Your glitch is on every copy of both the Audio CD and the DVD. Me... It's right. Just played it and you can just about hear it. And a bit later, too. Not sure I like the idea of the bum notes being corrected if that's right though. Well, I don't have that kind of cash either, but I scraped it up to see Morrissey at the Ryman next Tuesday. If we and Morrissey both live to get to the show, it will redeem one of the truly awful moments (among many) of '92, when we had tickets for Morrissey's only other Nashville show ever, and our alternator gave during the drive out to the Opry House. Keep your fingers crossed. BTW, tonight's appearance -- brown/red flannel overshirt, plain yellow t-shirt, olive khakis. Dark hair, goatee, no glasses tonight, and in an unsafe weight division. At the Nashville Pixies show there were no XXL shirts, meaning that neither I nor Black Francis could actually wear any of them! >MILES: ><< As for MoB, we should be reasonably early.
