I was struck by one of the early ones: #21 Buzzcocks "Noise Annoys" "You could argue that this song was actually meant to be annoying, but only a group of idiots would bother to record this dreck and release it. The Buzzcocks pulled off punk's first hat trick - infantile lyrics, one stoopid riff, and two (count 'em) crap solos in one tune. The only good idea is the song's rhyming title, but that's not enough to justify the immortalization of this steaming pile of poo." Some other ones were: #1 Poison "Guitar Solo" #57 The Cramps "Garbage Man" #69 The Ramones "This Ain't Havana" #80 The Cure "Pictures Of You" #89 White Stripes "Offend In Every Way" #100 Michael Jackson "Black Or White" __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I thought that we'd hit an all time low with lists like this, but this one takes the Number One Worst Cake of All Time. I guess there is some solace to be taken in the fact that it got the fine people at Guitar World magazine to listen to, and be annoyed by the Buzzcocks, although why they chose "Noise Annoys" over the two note solo on "Boredom" (which the Buzzcocks loved enough to use again on "Fast Cars") is a bit of a mystery. Group of idiots indeed! Did they bust Neil Young for "Cinnamon Girl"? Judging by the topic heading I was all ready to say just what the very worst guitar is, so I'll go ahead and do so. I don't know who made it, but it was black, had two pickups and a barely functional tremolo bar, was called "The Memphis", and the other two of us in the room holding guitars looked at the kid who brought it in and said, sorry, looks we have better guitars, you'll just have to take that thing back to Keyboard World at the mall and exchange it for a bass. But we woulda done that even if he'd had a really cool guitar, because we wuz a teenage asshole. - -Rex - -- _______________________________________________ Find what you are looking for with the Lycos Yellow Pages http://r.lycos.com/r/yp_emailfooter/http://yellowpages.lycos.com/default.asp?SRC=lycos10 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Oct 2004 21:30:59 EDT From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT: worst guitar In a message dated 10/6/04 7:18:40 PM, anw7pima@yahoo.com writes: << #1 Poison "Guitar Solo" #100 Michael Jackson "Black Or White" >> well this just shows the effort that went into compiling their wonderful list. choosing the easy cheesy target for #1 is just lame, and how there can possibly be 98 worse guitar solos than any that appear in michael jackson songs is just unimaginable. of course, any corporate rock act utilizing brainless studio musicians could have been put there in place of jacko. i wish a cool publication would compile a 100 worst pieces of crap ever published in music magazines list. :o) - -paul c.d. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Oct 2004 01:42:10 -0500 From: "dan bailey" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT: worst guitar > The Dec 2004 issue of Guitar World has an article, "The 100 worst > guitar solos of all time". > #57 The Cramps "Garbage Man" hmmm ... probably one of my 5 or so fave solos ever. but what do i know? dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Oct 2004 04:07:12 -0400 From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT: worst guitar my 2 fave "so bad they're great" guitar solos are "in my area" by the fall off "totales turns" (marc riley i presume , never saw that lineup play) and the truly amazing "if that's your bat , i'm leaving town...." by ausgang (go track this down if you get a chance , the guitarist was such a dude). thankfully i don't think i ever heard that poison track. though somehow i can imagine all too well what it must be like. p ps love the githead EP. very good indeed ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V7 #290 *******************************
