I particularly liked the 'Whispering voices heard in the background, occasional footsteps, a door closing. In stark contrast, Graham's voice is a very close-miked confidential whisper, drawing the listener in to an almost confessional space, his words with us almost before they are uttered. 'Take a step forward and tell the truth' ' bit. It sounds really interesting, and more to the point, makes me want to hear it. And that's before you take into account the other review there that Jan sent in with it's "Fall" finds the couple in a febrile state during a morass of cosmic radiowave boost joined by sepulchral stabilizating choirs from urban ruins' snappy little sentence. I don't have a copy but i've heard its pretty good. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Sep 2004 19:55:08 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] not really sorta OT for here: the fall >>anyone know what 'i am as pure as oranj' is? cd info says pilot label from 2001, produced by patrick bird. i am just, um...curious i guess.<< It's a live recording of one of the I am Kurious, Oranj performances in 1988 (Edinburgh 17/8/88). Very good too - excellent soundboard recording, lots of MES narration between the songs. And without doubt the classiest packaging of any Fall album. Completely orange, with minimal info, and some great shots of the show in the booklet. My copy is dated 2000 and is on the NMC label. it's a quasi-bootleg and is probably disapproved by MES - Steve Hanley is listed as "executive producer" (which means it was his tape!) and teh credits thank Lard. Bet that went down well in MES Mansions.... I wasn't particularly fussed about owning all the extra tracks (and you can still get the old 1 CD version), but there was about 4 quid difference in price so I thought i'd get the box set just to get the best available mix, and the booklet to read seeing as I don't really know much about the Kinks. A few of the extra tracks are really good actually, especially Misty Water.. so its worth having i'd say. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Sep 2004 01:24:51 +0100 From: Tim Subject: Re: [idealcopy] not really sorta OT for here: the fall MarkBursa@aol.com wrote: >>>anyone know what 'i am as pure as oranj' is? cd info says pilot label from > > 2001, produced by patrick bird. > > i am just, um...curious i guess.<< > It's a live recording of one of the I am Kurious, Oranj performances in 1988 > (Edinburgh 17/8/88).
