I saw them play at the Curiosa Fastival last night and was quite impressed. They had a really good sound. I like the mix between old REM/Bauhaus/Joy Division type music. Who has some recommendations for Interpol albums??? As far as The Cure goes- it was my least favourite Cure gig out of the three I have been to but still enjoable. Highlights would be Disintegration and 100 Years. The dark part of the show!! _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. There's wall to wall rap on wonderful Radio One, the Streets were recently Numero uno on singles and albums and there's a veritable horde of UK rappers currently being unleashed. At least this lot are diverging from the US and there is evolving a more distinctive sound. EMINEM has at least shaken of the colour barrier to being taken seriously and that's seen a lot of white and asian kids now being heard Much as I luv the old four piece blasting it out, the future is more likely to rap based just as the old beat bands were blues and r r n'b based. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2004 18:13:51 EDT From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] they have 200 couches hey, if you think "we have 200 couches, we will sleep tonight" is a great lyric, just wait til you hear the opener to the new album! here's the lyrics from the song 'next exit': we ain't going to the town, we're going to the city gonna trek this shit around, and make this place a heart to be a part of we ain't going to the town, we're going to the city gonna trek this shit around, and make this place a heart to be a part of again and from 'take you on a cruise': time is like a broken watch i make money like fred astaire i see that you've come to resist me and the pitbull in time but pretense is not what restricts me <----(interesting line, that one) it's the circles inside well, i'll just say again how much i like the music. and while we're on the music subject, i think chameleons are a much better comparison than joy division. i just wish he wrote better lyrics...or didn't annunciate so well! the music on antics is a little more formulaic than the earlier stuff, but it's still good. - -paul c.d. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2004 17:13:02 -0500 From: Miles Goosens Subject: Re: [idealcopy] they have 200 couches At 07:49 PM 8/19/2004 +0000, dpbailey@att.net wrote: >been meaning to mention having seen your curiosa review on the cure news >site, miles, you shameless fanboy ... Hey, you went there to read it! :-) The page Dan is talking about: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ChainofFlowers/july2804.html Short of boy band fans, certainly the most gushy group of adherents you could imagine. Some of them even liked the venue, even though I can assure you that Starwood is yr U.S. standard Clear Channel shed, complete with yr standard incredibly sucky big venue sound. The only group I've ever seen get decent sound there was Radiohead, as an *opener* for R.E.M. in September 1995. Radiohead was crystalline, but when R.E.M. came out, everything went too loud and muddy again. >100 years & a strange day, back to back. *sigh* I was real, real happy that we got "Play for Today" and "A Forest" back to back in our encore. Oh, wait, I say that in what I wrote for the Cure site too. Saw them live last year, in a fairly big venue which they sold out, but they failed to move me, or most of the audience bar the front 10 rows....they make quite a good noise but their was something terribly uncool about their presentation, they don't walk it like they talk it. Bit like watching The Eagles doing Joy Division covers. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V7 #245 *******************************
