Vetiver's eponymous debut (DiCristina) - Met Andy and the bunch a few weeks ago while out reviewing their gig here in Memphis. Nice people and great album--Colm from MBV plays on a couple of songs. 2. The Cure's new album - I like its immediacy...best since Wish in my humble opinion. 3. Morrissey's You Are the Quarry - Another 'return to form' sort of album...wasn't wild on the Mozzer's last couple and this one is a welcome change. 4. Isidore's eponymous debut (Karmic Hit) - Steve Kilbey of The Church and Jeffrey Cain from Remy Zero's project...as good as anything the Church has done recently if not better. 5. Gltch Btch's mFAD - Free for download at http://gltchbtch.panicnow.net , she does a mixture of IDM and...hell, I don't know. I like it, though. 6. Violet Indiana's Russian Doll - A little less murky than their debut Roulette, and Siobhan's voice sounds better too. I liked the debut but I think I like this one better. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 09:37:19 -0400 From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] Fwd: TGDVD Recording Session Merchandise here you go robert , mountains of unsold merchandise due to them blowing out the camber sands gig. i hadn't realised they'd actually played , but i presume this "recording session" was what would generally be referred to as a "gig". anyone know the story behind the collapse of the grand comeback. gen seemed to get PTV back together pretty sharpish......p Return-Path: Received: from rly-xh04.mx.aol.com (rly-xh04.mail.aol.com [172.20.115.233]) by air-xh01.mail.aol.com (v100.23) with ESMTP id MAILINXH12-4a140f7b9a71e5; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:19:25 -0400 Received: from anchor-post-37.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-36.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.86]) by rly-xh04.mx.aol.com (v100.23) with ESMTP id MAILRELAYINXH45-4a140f7b9a71e5; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:19:04 -0400 Received: from mailgate.mutelibtech.com ([194.70.81.160]) by anchor-post-37.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1BlQjv-000Dbr-0b; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 12:18:55 +0100 Received: from [194.70.81.81] by mailgate.mutelibtech.com with SMTP (QuickMail Pro Server for Mac 2.1); 16-Jul-2004 12:13:58 +0100 Date: 16 Jul 2004 12:18:04 +0100 Message-ID: <1025341434info@mutebank.co.uk> From: Mute Bank Subject: TGDVD Recording Session Merchandise X-Mailer: QuickMail Pro 3.1 (Mac) X-Priority: 3 MIME-Version: 1.0 Reply-To: Mute Bank Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" X-AOL-IP: 194.217.242.86 To: undisclosed-recipients:; Throbbing Gristle Merchandise Mute Bank have a quantity of RE-TG merchandise available which was sold at the TGDVD recording session on the 16th May at the Astoria in London. Clearly Rlynn and meeself are divided by the Atlantic and shock that it might be to his goodself but the UK had/has a different musical scene and therefore our perceptions are completely different. Put it this way, if you don't know who Joh Peel is then its difficult to understand the wasteland that was the 70s music scene in the UK until he played The Ramones and I'm Stranded by the Saints back to back in August 1976. For those of us outside of London it was the first hint that real change was coming and whilst not as cathartic as the arrival of Rock and Roll in 1954, Punks arrival was a real shot in the arm to moribund music scene. But I was curious that someone on a Wire list would ask what punk band produced more than 2 good albums! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 12:22:56 -0700 From: Paul Pietromonaco Subject: RE: [idealcopy] RE: Wire On The Box 1979 >> Region-free, NTSC encoded - you must have blessedly >> forgotten the very long encoding thread (where >> Paul Pietromonaco schooled us all on how these >> things actually work! :-) > > > Not quite. (^_^) Defence: To sum up, m'lud, I will take three random quotes to prove that TP are talking bollocks in the case against 1980's Wire! 1. IBTABA was an attempt to create "new" tracks by radically reworking digital live recordings from Chicago and Portugal. The studio trickery was more inspired than the music, 2. The era also produced numerous EPs featuring a song or two from each album along with live tracks or remixes; none is worth owning. 3. Wire Mark III seemed initially to have exorcised past dance-pop tendencies, "Being Watched" does sound like a throwback. (A witty mashup of it with Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U" didn't diminish that concern.) Judge: I concur. Case dismissed. BTW, What was that one about the 'buzz in the ear' called.
