I've said it before and I'll say it again, but Andrew & Howard were always very friendly and helpful, I had some very interesting conversations with them, they would play as much stuff for you as you wanted, and, God knows, I listened to a lot of stuff on my occasional visits. Each time they saw me, they'd realise, 'Oh, Wire must be playing', as that was invariably the reason I was over. It was a perfect shopping environment: quiet, relaxed. They even made me a cup of tea once. I'd spend sometimes 11/2 - 2 hours trawling through stuff, always to emerge smiling and blinking in the sunlight with a bag full of goodies. Billtoppers Wire blew the roof with a fabulously powerful set. Live, the dynamic of the Send material is so boneheaded was almost Gabba, with Robert Gotobed's wind-up cymbal/snare beat anchoring monosyllabic riffs that undermined the glib catharsis of most rock music by simply never paying off. Vocalist Colin Newman pogoed like a kid all the way, barking out surreal nursery rhyming lyrics that bolstered the feeling of miasmic stasis with lots of sticky consonance. Some way off from the rest, guitarist Bruce Gilbert stood motionless, drawing implacable, fuzz impacted slabs from his six strings, the extended silhouette of his guitar neck and his expressionless demeanour making it look like he'd gone fishing. Highlights were the malevolent "Mr Marx's Table" and bassist Graham Lewis's tongue-tripping assault on the Philip K Dickian "The Agfers Of Kodack". Elsewhere there's a review of TG in The Astoria with pictures of old Gen looking about as odd as I think I've ever seen him, virtually unrecognisable after surgery and with bee sting tits, resplendant in red PVC miniskirt and matching attire. Also, our very own Graeme has an item in the letters page, setting the record straight about Mission Of Burma and Boredoms releases, and responding intelligently to a previous letter writer's compaints about iPod users. It's a pretty good issue this month, with features on Alvin Lucier, Ellen Fullman and Damo Suzuki... Fergus __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Transfer it to a bass guitar and bingo! "This IS not a love song" appears....... Anyone see Later last night? I remember when the BBC was advert free, though featuring a load of Britpop-like acts at the same time as the Beeb release a Later Britpop dvd is, of course, just coincidental. Not sure what they were doing there, but it was good to see that Franz Ferdinand performance again, though. There was a few acts on that compilation that I wouldn't have thought were filed under Britpop, which I always think of as encompassing a specific 2-year period (approximately). Sure, the usual suspects were there, (Blur, Oasis, Supergrass etc) but Keane? Franz Ferdinand? And if the show did one thing, it re-affirmed my belief that The Libertines are one of *the* worst bands ever to get a TV slot. They were awful beyond belief, IMHO, and I don't think anyone would give them the time of day were it not for the involvement of Mick Jones in this sorry mess....... derek Yahoo! He's always in their letters page, one wonders whether anyone else ever writes in. I do find that I want to throw the Wire on the fire and jump and down on it at times though. It is the most pompous, unforgivingly pretentious read...but i'm glad its there....it infuriates....but I would rather be infuriated by it than not infuriated at all. GILBERT (Wire) - Ordier Ltd CD Box 14.99 Shipping Info  |  Returns Poicy  |  Stock information   DescriptionNew release CD from Wire member - released/shipping 21.6.04Unknown Tracks ?Gilbert's most notorious solo project was that of DJ Beekeeper, a regular at Paul Smith's Disobey noise salon, where he performed inside a garden shed. In 1996 he was invited to bring this sonic melee to the Table of the Elements Yttrium Festival in Chicago, where he shared a stage with avant stalwarts including John Fahey, Tony Conrad, Jim O'Rourke and Keiji Haino. Table of the Elements is now pleased to present the contemporaneous CD, Ordier. Recorded for the label in 1996 but subsequently believed lost, Ordier lets loose a wild swarm of electronics. As Gilbert writes: "I'm taking a very, very minimalist approach and really getting inside some of the sounds and chasing them to destruction. It's done mostly with effects, guitar pedals pushed to the absolute limit." E.g. In the event of an uninsured, missing parcel to the USA you will need to provide PROOF that you have NOT received the item BEFORE we can offer you a refund. This may seem harsh but if you are in any doubt PAY FOR THE INSURANCE !!! We prefer to offer our customers a CHOICE between standard and insured mail - this is because we understand that when ordering from outside the UK, shipping can be expensive HOWEVER uninsured shipping is ENTIRELY taken at your own risk. Our advice would be to either order mor! e items (we are happy to hold items while you collate/wait for more items to be listed - the more you buy, the smaller the percentage of shipping paid i.e. one LP = very expensive shipping, 5 LPs = less expensive shipping as a proportion) OR to think again about buying from a foreign country via mail order - THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED !Questions == sales@sisterray.co.uk   Payment We accept the following forms of payment: Paypal Visa/Mastercard USD/EUR cash ONLY (no checks/money orders) Any GBP payment (incl. Int'l Money Order in GBP) Sorry but we only accept bank transfer as payment for orders over GBP 200.00 If you win an auction and later see the same item being sold, this is because we have MORE THAN ONE COPY. We are NOT relisting items already sold - if you win an auction and pay us, you will receive the item.   Returns PoicyWe accept returns if the item arrives damaged, whether the packaging is damaged or not. In this situation we will pay for your return postage costs either by way of a shop credit or a refund in GBP, whichever you prefer - just tell us the costs of return shipping ! We do NOT accept returns for items you thought you wanted but then decided you didn't, items bought as presents which the person already has or doesn't want, items which you find after we ship are cheaper in another store, items you feel you paid too much postage on (all shipping rates as stated).   Stock informationGeneral stock- we are a well established independent record store who have been trading since 1989 on Berwick Street, at the heart of London's world famous music buying area. As such items are constantly coming in and out of stock and therefore stock levels are constantly changing. As a rule, we list general new release items in quantities of 5 and increase these quantities if we feel an item is likely to sell more. Sometimes we get it wrong and inadvertantly sell out of items while they may still be listed on ebay. Please be assured that if this happens to you, we will ALWAYS refund any monies you have paid us in full or offer you an alternative item. Unfortunately, because we spend more time selling records, our stock management system has suffered somewhat and it is difficult for us to be 100% accurate 100% of the time. We hope this does not cause any inconvenience. Limited releases - We at Sister Ray like to offer every customer an equal opportunity to purchase limited release items. Because of our 15 year old contacts in the music industry, we tend to receive more copies of limited items than many other record stores and can therefore offer them to more people than most outlets. However, in the name of equality, we always offer these limited editions on a first come first served basis. Therefore, if you do order something and miss out, please rest assured that this is not because we are taking them for ourselves or giving them to friends of the store - you simply weren't quick enough in ordering the item !! Very limited release items will also generally be limited to one or two per customer so again, if you order ten copies of something and only get one, this is probably why - unfortunately we have no way of limiting order quantities until after you have bought the items so sorry for any hassle this may cause. FEEDBACK Info 1. Like you, good feedback is very important to us. 2. We NEVER leave negative or neutral feedback for a buyer unless we receive unwarranted negative feedback from them. 3. Our feedback is left upon receipt of positive feedback from a buyer. 4. Given that we ALWAYS try our hardest to resolve any problems, we feel negative feedback is unwarranted - you will ALWAYS be refunded or receive replacements or alternative items or credit to use in our store, therefore all problems will be resolved thus warranting good feedback. 5. Any negative feedback received that we feel is unwarranted will automatically result in the buyer being barred from bidding on future auctions. Sorry, but like we said, good feedback is important to us !!   eBay's most successful sellers use Auctionworks sales management services!
