Another excellent London night out last night at the tiny Arts Cafi. Local Girl Saves Planet only sang two songs, one of them, coincidentally, 'Local Girl Saves Planet' but it had a lo-fi quality and wit which would have made it a classic if it had been recorded in 77. I had seen a scaled down Misty's Big Adventure supporting Jeffrey Lewis last year but this had not prepared me for the full-size extravaganza. Seven people on (the tiny) stage, including sax and trumpet players and a full-time dancer named Erotic Volvo, dressed up in an outfit with dozens of rubber gloves attached, they produced a set of great sing-along songs, played with a panache which was utterly winning. From a similar live stable as Herman Dune. Utterly winning and I'd turn out anytime. There are only two of Motormark but that doesn't stop them making a hell of a racket. Augmenting their keyboard samples with some live guitar, they kicked up a storm. Given their sound - highly danceable electro-punk, not a million miles from Ladytron but better - and look - matching girl/boy red and black, Weimar haircuts and attitude - I'd be amazed if they're not much bigger soon. Better than current duos The Kills and The Ravonettes IMO. All this for four quid. Excellent Another the Keith - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Keith Astbury There's also a rather pointless Top 100 gigs ever, which suggests that either virtually every 'greatest gig ever' has taken place in London Keith ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 21:09:11 -0400 From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: RE: [idealcopy] OT - Phenomenal web site... Well jealous of the fact you saw RM in 72....well beyond teh aspirations of my 11-year-old self at that time !
