I thought that "the Doors" was pretty decent... then there was Bird from Eastwood. So, like anything, I guess it is more about the people involved, rather than a general thing. There is a lot of shit on biopics of music, like the one you mentioned or most anything that VH-1 shows. Through him I discovered Mission of Burma and I also quite enjoyed the Ambient album. I can see why some of you dislike him, though. It's a little disheartening to see good music get mainstreamed (and for some, diluted). I have to admit, though, that I'm far more fond of hearing a Buzzcocks song on a car advert than, say, Dan Fogelberg or Kenny Loggins. ;) Personally, I'm happy to see JD get the attention they deserve and I'm quite looking forward to the end product if it ever gets off the ground. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 May 2004 09:22:15 -0400 From: PaulRabjohn@aol.com Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Joy Division film 'in planning' and remember , moby was probably the reason emi bought mute. which means they own the majority of wire recordings. so if one day a tasty box set comes out of it , just thank the old slaphead and his contribution to it all :-) p ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 May 2004 14:50:22 +0100 From: "Keith Astbury" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Joy Division film 'in planning' > That Def Leppard film is classic! One of the funniest things I've ever seen. Funniest thing I've seen lately is the old Dr Beat video by Miami Sound Machine. It's on a par with Lionel Richie's Hello as a so bad it's, ahem, good video. > What are people's thoughts on '24 Hour Party People'? I liked it. This is my view of Moby as well... though i did not get to see him live. I did not even bother to listen to the Play2 album. > however , the logic that because he's a bowie fan , and so were joy division > , so he's the man for this movie seems a bit optimistic. not sure which era > of bowie he's into to be honest , struggling to see much influence. and his > stadium rock cover of "new dawn fades" was less than classic. hhehehe... it is not a logic to support him, that is for sure. it is just an additional bit that is interesting, along with other bits... creates a sense of "OK" but not that this the guy by any means.
