Glad to see him back. Damn, missed it! Will there be a repeat the coming week? Not too keen on his vibrato-voice myself, but we all know he's capable of writing a good popsong. True about the conservatism though. I don't mind EC much, but I prefer someone like Tom Waits, who starts out quite traditionally and then steps out of those boundaries more as he ages. Only saw him once in the rather dull Concertgebouw in the Hague (1979?) where we were all neatly packed in our seats. Dury immediately asked everybody to come up front, luring them with little presents he threw around from a huge bag. Within 2 minutes he had everybody dancing and enjoying themselves. Great personality! Great inbetween songs banter! Great songs! Great gig! His comment was to sneer at the cover (pic of computer) and sniff that he 'preferred people' (surely anyone who feels they have to say it probably dosen't). He went on to say that anyone with a Casio keyboard could write this kind of music. I don't normally retain information about people who diss my favourites for quite this long, but when this degree of ignorance and smugness is involved, I think I can be excused (?) His then girlfriend, Caitlin Someone out of the Pogues, was a lot nicer about it. Whatever happened to her?
