And why the delay? And why release this now...8 years on? ))) It had been sitting gathering dust with Table Of The Elements for most of this time, and Bruce was asking for it back if they weren't going to do anything with it, as they said they didn't have the money to release it, then they 'found' the money to put it out. That's roughly how the story goes anyway. Material recorded in 96, and apparently sits somewhere between (as in, has elements of both) Ob Ovo & In Esse. Order it directly from Table Of The Elements. What bliss! Takes one back over 30 years! As for Mark Smith, is there anything left in his tank? I knew Smith from the earlist days as we both wrote for the same punk fanzine, but he was as bonkers then, continually firing everyone in his band. I last saw him at Sadlers Wells in 88 when he did the music for a mad dance show based on King Billy, but even then he seemed stuck in a time warp. I was simply using Matthews as an example of a band that provides a "competent rock show", no doubt with "respect for the audience", of the sort you seem to demand. One should never actually listen to Dave Matthews. You might never recover. > >>i feel vindicated in my bitching about the Fall show (debacle) that i > witnessed...i am quite capable of telling the difference between an old > drunk who > loves to wind people up and an old drunk who just doesn't give a shit about > playing for his fans and is just going through the motions to make some > cash..<< And that difference is? > >>i did find out later that the shithole of a club (The Creepy Crawl) where > the > Fall played (sucked) was THE only club in town that would book them (dollar > signs cloud reality) for the ridiculous sum they were asking...(especially > with > MES's rep)<< Define ridiculous? More than Bunnygrunt charge? MES's reputation is precisely why an established band can charge more. And that's a problem? Why are people grudgeful indeed... > >>oh well..live and learn....<< Don't say you weren't warned. Or do you calculate your gig satisfaction by some ratio of set length divided by ticket price? A very conservative approach from one whose tastes are far from conservative... > >>speaking of shows: The Legendary Pink Dots and Tortoise (two days apart, > end > of month) are sure not to disappoint...Terry Riley/Philip Glass/Bang on Can > performed a great Sunday night concert at a local college (Washington > University)..and with some great local acts like Bunnygrunt and Grandpa's > Ghost playing > out, the summer looks bright.<< Look forward to the reviews of Bunnygrunt.... Mark ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 16:06:04 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] 1 2 Bless U Noted a considerable rise in items for sale on Ebay under 'Wire' - many of which seemed to be copies of The Third Day. A secret cache discovered at Swim mansions perhaps? some unscrupulous bootlegger? An obscure Norwegian licence release? Oh no. A closer inspection reveals these to be something entirely less palatable. There is, apparently, a band called Third Day. And their new album is called Wire. And they are Christian Rock. Now I know you lot are generally fairly intelligent and will notice this, but I thought I'd better warn you. After all, I bet there are a few of you out there with Chris Newman albums ;-) Mark ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 17:16:25 EDT From: RLynn9@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] latest Fall news In a message dated 5/7/04 2:33:59 PM Central Daylight Time, MarkBursa@aol.com writes: > Oh, come on Robert.
