From: "Tim" > Mozzer lost me with 'Every Day is Like Sunday' which sounded like a bad > Smiths parody and I never bought another record..... Really surprises me that you don't like that one, Tim. I would have thought that would have been right up your street. I thought Kill Uncle seemed like the end of Moz at the time. Very 'average'! So the Mick Ronson produced / glam busting Your Arsenal was a very pleasant surprise. And amazingly, Vauxhall & I was even better. Quite possibly my fave ever Moz LP (and that includes The Smiths!!) Wasn't wild about Southpaw Grammar at the time - it was such a disappointment after V&I - but it's aged well IMO. Less keen on his last one (Maladjusted) though - even though I think Alma Matters is truly fab! > but it is rather nice > to see Mozzer on the front of NME again...especially for those of us who > remember when NME stood for New Morrissey Express. Yes, I'm pleased he's back. It really did start to seem like there was never gonna be another Moz LP and Maladjusted just wasn't the place to end... > I'm sure I'm not the only one here who used to read NME in his youth and > swore he'd still be reading it in my 30s and 40s because I was going to grow > old but still in touch, like John Peel....but then suddenly...about > 1999...NME went all > Dayglo-kiddy-2-second-attention-span-TXT-MSG-styleee...and put Eminem, > Blink 182, Linkin Biskits etc on the cover. > It wasn't my fault! Not at all. I stopped my order last year. This was the first I've bought this year. The last one was the xmas which I felt I couldn't do without. But frankly, the nme is a disgrace. The 3 page question & answer article with Moz is positively in-depth compared with the rest nowadays. So it's not just the telly that's being dumbed down. And don't even get me started on the news - Trevor McDonald now talks to us as if we're all simpletons with those over-emphasised pronunciations. I blame John Suchet with his Les-Dawson-does-old- lady-talking-over-the-fence-with-next-door-neighbour style of delivery. All well and good if you're discussing the old woman from number 32's varicose veins, but somewhat less appropriate for a terrorist attack. But the moment Tweedy went into rehab, I figured it was scotched. Now I have to hope for a late summer/fall convenient weekend date, or that they step up their "every three years we play Nashville" timetable. However, I'm a little more glad that I didn't spring for a Coachella trip, and that my New Orleans airfares were fully refundable (and I *never* buy fully refundable tickets)! Wire content: My favorite live shows of 2002 were Wire in Chicago and Wilco at the Ryman. I have posters from both that I need to frame. later, Miles ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2004 17:03:39 -0500 From: "Steve Loubert" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT: Pixies Both the April 1 Neubauten show and the first Pixies show have turned up as MP3s on Usenet.
