It was a tough choice that day (Neubaten or MoB in London; A Certain Ratio in Manchester; Durutti Column in Glasgow; British Sea Power in Amsterdam). Neubaten won because I already had the tickets and was feeling lazy. They played a long (almost two hour) set, maybe 2/3 from the new album and 1/3 older stuff. Although the audience mostly seemed old enough to have been around since the beginning, the Ende Neu era material got the best reactions. (There was a stormingly good version of Ende Neu itself). One neat feature of the current tour is that they make "official bootlegs" - CDRs of the performance that are burned on the spot and available right after the gig. Unfortunately I failed to figure out that you needed to buy a ticket entitling you to one before the concert began. With a slightly different set list every night of the tour (available at their website, http://www.neubauten.org/setlist/040304.html for the London one), and limited numbers made, I am sure these will rapidly become collectors' items. Pleased to hear that MoB were good - I really must get round to seeing them sometime. ACR were apparently also on top form, and did a cover of Heart and Soul for an encore. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2004 23:11:12 +0100 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Re: idealcopy-digest V7 #112 Just back from a weekend away to this excellent news. BTW can you post this please (from pinkflag HQ) - the same material as discussed in the "e-bay bootleg" thread only sourced from the original masters (therefore of much higher quality) will be available later this year as part of series of reissues. Hi Over this last week I had a friend from Sydney visit me for my birthday. He is a huge Wire fan but never did see them when they were in Oz... His favourite album is 154, he wanted to play a song for me... It was the first track off this album... 'I Should Have Known Better'. When he played this song I remembered that I heard it so long ago in the earlier 1980's. I really loved this song back then and it was strange to finally know who the artist was and what it was called, it took me back. Back in the 1980's I used to tape everything I heard on the radio and kept what I thought was worthy and this was one of those songs. Nothing else on this album rings a bell though. I'll keep you posted once I've heard the album properly. Another mystery solved... so many years later. I had to share this with you. anastasia ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V7 #114 *******************************
