We were amazed to discover that BSP were the support and Eastern Lane the headliners. I was not alone in being most unimpressed: their best songs sounded like other people's songs (there's one just like early U2, one like the Jam, etc.) and the singer's voice is irritating and he badly needs a haircut. They have some very keen twelve year old Dutch fans, who presumably haven't heard this stuff done better long before. Sorry to be critical, but Eastern Lane didn't do anything for me. I haven't heard the records, however. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Apr 2004 11:40:36 +0200 From: Bart van Damme Subject: Re: [idealcopy] great Stereolab deal! >> i didn't know about that. geez, and they have a kid, right? weird they >> continue to work together. weird to me at least. > the weirdest one along these lines to me was when siouxsie booted > severin out of the bedroom , moved budgie in and the band kept going. > rehearsals > must have been sooooo much fun :-) p Makes me wonder if the Pixies getting back together has anything to do with a possible personal reunion of Frank & Kim... Although I just saw J. Hobson's email and decided to read this one. Not sure if there has been many replied but here is mine. Firstly I have to say you are a brave man to teach, you must be very patient. I have to say I am a patient person but I would never teach as I know the hell I/We gave the teachers when we were there, anyway good on you. Regarding the file sharing and CD pricing. Well I have to say I am guilty in downloading music and I share some things but not all of what I download. The beauty of downloading music is that you can listen to it before you buy it. I am on many mail-lists and so many people recommend bands that I can then download and get into the discussion. :-) I hope Mark Bursa doesn't mind me saying this, but if it weren't for Mark giving me a listen to the WIRE song,'Mr Marxs Table', I would never have gone to see Wire that night. I heard the track on Friday, Saturday I decided to get my ticket for the Sunday show, where I bought their CD 'Send'. So there are definite pluses for file sharing. I think I would be speaking for many here that at the end of the day if it's your favourite band then you are going to buy an original CD. Nothing worse then not having the REAL cover for a CD. True I rarely look at the CD cover too small. If only the internet were available when I was a teenager I probably would have got into more music then I did... My parents didn't allow us to buy many records and we weren't allowed to buy singles. So we have to choose wisely. So today you would think that the youngster would have a vast variety of music to listen too, but why they does the top 40 have such crappy bands in it, you know all that R & B? Unfortunately the 'Sheep', commercial factor hasn't changed the way the charts look. What are your thought of this? Brainwashing is still alive and well, unfortunately the all mighty dollar rules. Back to lurking in the shallows... anastasia - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of j.hobson - ----- Original Message ----- From: > > File-sharing doesn't kill CD sales, study finds > > > > > no, of course it doesn't...what kills cd sales is that nobody can/wants to > pay fucking $16 for cds anymore...if these stupid greedy assholes in the > music industry would realize that if they would charge between $8-$10 for > new cds and $3 for singles everyone would be much happier.... > I teach (god help me) and the lads tell me they haven't bought a CD in years as they either they copy or downloaD. At their age we all copied unto cassette and there is still a music industry. One difference though is that LP covers were as much a part of the experience as the record. I've gone over every inch of my old covers at one time or another. But I never feel any longing to even open the booklets of arty moody twaddle that falls out of CDs. The price now for CDs is set by CDWOW at about #9 new and #7 after about six months. The record industry through the legal book at CDWow when they cut the price to #7.00 and sadly won. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Apr 2004 05:03:57 EST From: CHRISWIRE@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] [OT] what is the word on EASTER LANE In a message dated 03/04/2004 09:20:33 GMT Daylight Time, bartvandamme@home.nl writes: > [*] Though I've been told Eastern Lane were just from the English side of > the border... > > Bart > Ah Bart you are looking to get an anorak ! I have liked Aereogramme's music for a while... quite a nice evolution from Ganger. I have not been able to see them live, but I am intrigued if they have been able to reproduce their big sound on stage, and if not, is it something else interesting. I may still give Eastern Lane a try... if they have a sign of evolution, I will be content with what they got to offer. There are also so many music channels thanks to cabele. Regarding the back catalogue I haven't heard anything yet but will. I've just been busy. I have a friend coming to Melbourne from Sydney today and I just had so much to do. I'm a hoarder you see so I had to un-clutter (if that is a word) my place. He likes Wire too, but never went to the gig as he didn't want to go on his own and he's a fan. Maybe the distance also had something to do with it and it was awkward for him to get to. I think he prefers 154. After I saw the gig I told him what he had missed out on. I think he was annoyed with himself. I will be sending my reviews to the list once I've heard the back catalogue.
