(OK, Ari I know that the 'right' nights were 30 years ago but give me a break!) From the petetownshend website (dates are wrong there, I've corrected them). 22 March 2004 The Forum, night 1 The band made a triumphant return to the stage tonight in the small north London venue the Forum. The first of three shows at the venue saw the band pick up fairly much where they finished in Toronto 2002. It was a pretty emotional evening that was a success in every way.The band, showing their delight at being back, entered onto the stage with Roger singing 'Maybe It's Because I'm A Londoner'!! The set list was: Who Are You I Can't Explain Substitute Anyway Anyhow Anywhere Another Tricky Day Bargain Baba O'Riley Behind Blue Eyes 5:15 Sea and Sand Love Reign O'er Me Eminence Front You Better You Bet Real Good Looking Boy The Kids Are Alright My Generation / Old Red Wine Won't Get Fooled Again Pinball Wizard Amazing Journey / Sparks See Me Feel Me / Listening To You You can read a review of the show in The Times here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,685-1048581,00.html 24 March The Forum, night 2 The band played the same setlist as on Monday but, if it were possible, seemed to have turned it up a notch or two further! 25 March 2004 The Forum, night 3 A shorter show tonight as Roger had sung himself dry at the two previous shows. As a result the band didn't play The Kid's Are Alright, Real Good Looking Boy, Old Red Wine or the Tommy encore. The band finished with Won't Get Fooled Again and encored with My Generation. ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Feldman in particular, as it's the quietest, simplest, most unassuming music of rare beauty you're likely to come across. Gives you a completely different sense of time. Takemitsu did a lot of film scores (Rashomon, Ran) and his stuff is very atmospheric, very evocative. Reminiscent of Debussy, similar lyricism, but strained through a distinct Oriental sensibility. Part was very popular in the early 90s when he first became really known, as part of the 'New Minimalism' or 'Holy Minimalism', which are complete misnomers, as, though the music is superficially simple, it's very rich and resonant. Minimalism, as a term, is about as meaningless as ambient or punk. Fergus np - Peter Gabriel 3 " Nice here with a view of the trees, eating with a spoon, they don't give you knives. They performed all Fergus' mentioned composers probably and with a nice approach. Look at http://www.kronosquartet.org/other/wall-comp.htm. I heard once a dutch radio-serie about modern classic music. They diveded this in American and Russian composed music. The american was so called processing music. Like minimal music made by Glass, Adams, Reich, Lamonte Young, Louis Harrison. The Russian more highly emotional and religious like Ustvolskaya, Schnittke, Shostakovich, Paert, Gorecki, even Stravinski. And we, that's western europe are living between them. And the music we make has something from both. You can think about that or not. np Fennesz - Venice I must say this is modern music sure. A blend of psychosis and sentimentality wrapped up in minimalistic drones, menacing vocals, mad scat lines, heavily echoed screams and screeches, incoherent mumbles and a dash of sugary crooning, the 'primal duo' (as they have been affectionately dubbed) recorded Live at Max's Kansas City 1980 and it features the distinctive Suicide sound in its most passionate and primitive form. Never intended for commercial release, this 'no frills' raw and wild punk ritual illustrates why Suicide are among rock 'n roll's consumate performers. Using only a 1950's rhythm machine and a cheap Farfisa keyboard on their legendary and eponymous self titled debut in1977, Suicide are considered to be one of the pioneers and founders of today's electronica movement and have influenced the likes of Jesus & Mary Chain, Spacemen 3, Stereolab and scores of others. And then of course there is... Lewis Gilbert (1920-) b. London, England. Initially a child actor in silent films, Lewis Gilbert served during the Second World War in the American Air Corps Film Unit, later making a number of short documentaries. The best known of his early features are war-related subjects, including Reach for the Sky (1956), Carve Her Name with Pride (1957) and Sink the Bismarck! (1960). During the 60s Gilbert directed Michael Caine in the iconic cynical sex comedy Alfie (1966). Gilbert directed the lavish James Bond adventures You Only Live Twice (1967), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1977), but the latter two were lacklustre additions to the franchise. Gilbert was thought to be a reliable but emotionally cool director, at his best with action and adventure, but during the 80s he directed two Willy Russell stage plays adaptations, the successful comedies Educating Rita (1983) and Shirley Valentine (1989). Lewis Gilbert's subsequent films include the eerie but flat James Herbert adaptation Haunted (1995) starring Aidan Quinn and Kate Beckinsale. http://www.britmovie.co.uk/biog/g/001.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 2004 19:43:57 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] Re: bus 154 In a message dated 3/26/04 5:25:31 AM, rys01ajc@gold.ac.uk writes: > >> and i thought it was cool that there's now a bus route #154 from my >> school (the bus #'s get announced as they arrive for students at the >end >> of the day). there ain't even a kid named lewis or gilbert on that bus. >> >> - -paul c.d. >Due to vandalism were there ever any chairs missing ? no, but being the kind of school it is, there have been a few single k.o.'s in this public place! - -another the paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Mar 2004 19:29:54 -0800 (PST) From: Ari Britt Subject: [idealcopy] btw.
