That's a great term. Gonna add that one to my vocab immediately!! I actually know a guy who's a trainspotter, so this will come in handy ; ) Actually, in fairness, I think it's the solitude he likes, much in the same way that some folk take up fishing for the same reason, but it's a strange hobby whatever. I can understand the attraction in seeing some vintage steam driven machine make one of it's rare excursions if you're interested in that sort of thing, but noting the numbers of the bog standard inter city 125 or whatever they're called nowadays, is a step too far - probably akin to buying Sham 69 singles cos you liked Dot Dash! They'd be better off doing something useful and record how late all the trains are if you ask me. Keith np- Tarwater - silur (I love this album so much. Most...?? That just seems to be such a sweeping generalisation, and an innacurate one to boot. *I've* not noticed any manifestations of the narrow-mindedness of which he speaks, hereabouts? It's hardly surprising that seeing as how we're signed up to a list, the raison d'etre for which is an appreciation for wire's music, that there is an *implied* rejection of some aspects of contemporary music. (As a 'for instance', as 'our boys' stuff could be said to be minimal, and more concerned with construction/texture/atmosphere than what Mark B has called the 'tyranny of technique',I reckon it's a safe bet that none of us are inclined to judge a piece of music based on how impressive the marks out of 10 for fretboard gymnastics are.) It follows that there are some sorts of music that would get the bile rising in *most*, if not all of us. That said, reading your posts during my time here, it's also true that we've all got widely different tastes/areas of interest, and occasionally disagreements about the merits of some band or other *do* surface, but jeez, isn't one of the functions of this list to serve as a discussion group? Part of life's rich tapestry, I'd say, and long may it continue. What's the problem, so long as it doesn't result in personal invective going on? Do we know if he's a Darkness fan, or what?? I just can't think of what else could have triggered his ire, in recent threads.....:-s Maybe the guy's mistaken our being passionate about championing our particular musical tastes, and being prepared to argue the case, for some perceived sleight. As Toyah might have said, "It'th a mythtery"....... Unless...... Afterthought: the guy *isn't* perchance a "gay ex-South Afrikaan policeman", taking umbrance at my remarks re The Darkness/Queen a while back, is he? *I* don't know anything about him, other than the fact that he seems to have been nursing a bit of a shitlist for things said a year back, which is a bit worrying in itself!.......;-) Still, sleep I shall not be losing. and i was called an "anorak" .. > >absolutely agree with keith on this one. i always see it as a term of >endearment round here, /// It's unlikely to happen, as my font of trivia isn't in the same league as, say, Mark B's, but *were* I ever to be called an anarak, it'd just elicit a wry grin and a vague feeling of being passed a backhanded compliment. I certainly wouldn't head for the drawer with the effigy wax and the sharp pins, anyhow........ > >and speaking of anagrams... >BIOPIC NUN TRUSS //// This is a movie that might be worth a punt out of curiosity....lottery funding, anyone..? >PUS TURNS BIONIC //// And this certainly would.
