This release unites Speedy with Hollands Literon over two tracks of intense dancefloor techno. A - 'Snacker' has a minimal, almost glitchy groove, and is noticeably less linear than Speedys solo work. His involvement becomes apparent, though, in the drum programming, particularly the overdriven snare hit. The attention to detail in the actual sounds used is typically meticulous, and when the bass drops, it really drops! Tension builds with some fierce reverb (another Speedy trademark), working to a claustrophobic climax of heavy white noise. AA - 'Knicker' begins as a more overtly clubby track, with more of a kick from the off, however, theres a real raw edge to the sounds, and a more clunking, industrial groove to it. As with the A side, its instantly apparent that it will sound amazing played LOUD on a decent soundsystem, yet the textural variance elevates it beyond mere fodder status. Also available again is the classic double 12" 'Patterns' in a Novamute generic sleeve. I understand the proper meaning of the > word, mind you. The 'Anorak' thing is related to the phenomenon of Train Spotters. Not sure if they have them outside of Britain. Basically, these are people who have a quite anal interest in trains, and can spend days standing on the end of railway platforms collecting the numbers of passing trains, and taking pictures of them. The stereotype of these people is that they are usually men, and usually wearing a grubby anorak (hence the name) to protect them from the elements, probably have a second-hand ladies holdall to keep their notebooks and other unsavoury items in, a flask of warm liquid to drink, possible have severe body odour and limited social skills. (Many of these poor buggers probably have undiagnosed Aspergers Syndrome or borderline Autism....but hey) Of course, The term 'Trainspotter' can also be extended to anyone (usually a male) with an unhealthy interest in list-making, memorising obscure facts or extensive research into one notable ephemeral or trivial thing, be it Trains...or Northern Soul 7" singles, or Factory Records, Electric pylons or whatever. One can therefore be "An Anorak" about quite sexy things like obscure Jazz records, if one takes ones obsession to the point of being able to recite catalogue numbers and so forth. For some reason this doesn't seem to extend to more manly pursuits such as Soccer. It seems perfectly acceptable to be completely anal about Football, recite league tables, re-call the goalscorers for Rushton & Diamonds entire season in the 1986 Tizer League without fear of being branded an "Anorak". But at the end of the day its just a bit of fun, and if you can't take a joke you shouldn't be on this list, you're better off stood on a draughty railway platform awaiting a Class 37 with the bloke who writes the following website: http://www.rail37.co.uk/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2004 22:42:04 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: ot (but somewhat amusing) Re: [idealcopy] Angry copyists and anoraks In a message dated 2/24/04 9:22:02 PM, tim@kidsindestructible.com writes: >But at the end of the day its just a bit of fun, and if you can't take >a > >joke you shouldn't be on this list, you're better off stood on a draughty > >railway platform awaiting a Class 37 with the bloke who writes the following > >website: > > > >http://www.rail37.co.uk/ or good ol dave here, who has a thing for buses. i wonder how many times he saw a chorus line?: http://www.davemackey.com/busgallery/ enjoy! - -another the paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2004 20:44:30 -0800 (PST) From: eric719@webtv.net (Eric Strang) Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Angry copyists and anoraks The 'Anorak' thing is related to the phenomenon of Train Spotters.
