They will be playing in Atlanta on May 15 (at the Masquerade). I'm thinking about getting tickets to this show, but the only album that I own (and the only one that I'm really familiar with) is the first Strategies Against Architecture ('80-'83). What are their shows like nowadays? ))) Dunno what their recent live shows are like, but, musically, they're significantly different to the above period. A lot more stripped down, more musical (voice, guitar, bass, metal drumkit & assorted flotsam) much less of the heavy grade industrial equipment in use. How does the lineup of the band compare with back then? ))) Bassist Marc Chung and percussionist FM Einheit left in 96, leaving a huge hole in the band I felt. Rudi Moser and Jochen Arbeit have now filled their shoes and the band has changed shape since then. Should I bother? ))) Most definitely. EN are always interesting on some level, and the live experience is quite something to behold if they do any of the old numbers, which, judging by the tracklisting of the Brussels live album from 2000, forms a significant part of the live repetoire (esp. the wonderful Die Interimschliebenden, from Tabula Rasa (c. 95 I think). The only time I saw them was in London University in 85, around the time of the Halber Mensch LP. Quite memorable. Mufti (FM Einheit) assailed by flying bottles thrown by skinheads, him threatening them with large shards of metal, a PA stack on the verge of collapse at one stage, an amazing version of Das Letzte Beist Am Himmel that was later to surface on the Touch compilation Lands End, support act Boyd Rice getting whacked on a bed of nails... I'm definitely going to see them when they play Dublin in April, supported by my good friends The Jimmycake. To me, they sound like Queen, excepting the vocalist doesn't look or sound like a gay South Afrikaan policeman. Even more depressing to me, is the number of people I know that previously displayed a modicum of taste that seem to be swallowing them whole. As far as I can see, they are the arse-end of the pantomime horse that is 21st century 'Heavy Metal': not *quite* as odious as say, a Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and the rest of those poodle-haired 90's tosspots, but undeniably third division, lowest-common-denominator cock-rock of the worst kind...... Bah! If they really *were* the best we have, we'd be in serious trouble, but when did the Brits ever have anything to do with anything other than how loudly the cash registers ring? _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2004 13:03:11 EST From: RLynn9@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] too much time on my hands..(COMPLETELY off topic) ...has anyone ever noticed that the first track (Total All Out Water) on the ADD N To X lp: Loud Like Nature, sounds just like "Fairies Wear Boots" by Black Sabbath ??? give it a spin and see what i mean.... Actually, I would much prefer Annie Lennox to the Darkness anyday. Here Comes the Rain for example is a glorious pop song. Even Elton has made odd good pop single. At least Crocodile Rock would make me singalong. Bell's End just makes me switch off. And the difference between Annie Lennox and The Darkness is that Annie Lennox made Cry. The Darkness make me want to cry. Derek... > Even more depressing to me, is the number of people I know that >previously displayed a modicum of taste that seem to be swallowing them >whole. Agree totally. I check out the Julian Cope site and there seems to be millions of Darkness fans there. I can see why people might find them funny, but the records stink.
