Quite apart from the abilities of the Cure themselves to put on a decent show, I'd imagine that the live sound system from around that time was probably unmatched by any of their contemporaries. IIRC, they copped a bit of flak in the NME etc for hiring a large wodge of the PInk Floyd's live PA system. The writers wanted to know why they'd hired a system from "the bloated pig-floaters". Robert Smith replied that it was quite simply the best PA system available, a judgement I'd endorse, (irrespective of what material emerges from the speakers). Does it come across as such on the boot's from that period? Being a comparative late convert to the Cure, I haven't heard any live stuff from that period...........DW _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. The 'Live at Orange' performance was the clincher, though. IIRC it was the line-up with Andy Anderson on drums, and concensus among Cure fans I've spoken to seems to be that this was probably the worst line-up, but they were bang on the money for that version of '100 years' For years tho', I thought it was 'The Tube' they did it on.
