You walk in straight off the street and the room is about 13 metres by 20 metres with a bar on one side and a small stage about one metre high at the opposite end. There is an upstairs platform that ends half way down the rrom (and extends along the sides). You'd probably fit several hundred down stairs and another hundred up. So it's not a MAJOR venue by any means: There's a 'pub-gig' feel to it. As far as pricing goes Wire is $ Australian 39 (around $US 30 and GBP 17): this is the cost to see a third tier Aussie band. Some current competitors are Robbie Williams $120; Something For Kate (Oz)Powderfinger (Oz) $61; Gerling $98; Radiohead $85; the Living End (Oz)$22; The SuperJesus $25; Things Of Stone And Wood (Oz) $15. However it needs to be borne in mind that NOBODY has heard of Wire over here. I am yet to meet anyone here who would think that 'Gotobed' was anything more than an indecent proposal. Makes it real hard to have a 'Wire-ey' conversation, but at least it means there are few competitors when juicy items appear in local second hand stores. The ticket pricing means its unlikely that the boys will retire on the proceeds, even more so when there is only ONE New Zealand gig, however perhaps it is the adventure of new experiences that is compensating for the low return.
