The mixman program as a cd-extra seemed to be all the rage for a while. I recall making endless versions of "ladyshave" by gusgus with it. Seen it on a few others - rockers hi fi comes to mind, but can't pull any others out at the moment. Also for the DIY set, the move any mountain cd single by the shamen featured all the samples used to compile the track. billE =-=-=-=-=-=- rp: the usual mishmash: he said, glenn miller, count basie, steve vai, morcheeba, r.stevie moore, some elliott smith boots, groove armada ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2003 13:01:59 +0000 From: Andrew Walkingshaw Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Let It Be Wired On Wed, Nov 26, 2003 at 07:54:24AM -0500, Tisbili@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 11/24/2003 7:35:11 PM Eastern Standard Time, > tim@kidsindestructible.com writes: > > > > I think Coldcut did something along these lines, but only for one song. It strikes me this aesthetic is very close to what Wire are doing (recording live parts, then welding them together with Protools, duct-tape, and magic) at the moment, actually. It's very noticeable on some tracks; the guitars are so "consistent" that no human could play like that, particularly when compared with the live performances. It's interesting, in that it's a remarkably unrock way of doing things, and it does seem partially inspired by Silo (for one: arguably Can and Neu! worked this way, but technology wasn't on their side) and, particularly, electronica - probably not surprising when you look at the band members' solo output. - - Andrew - -- home - email: andrew@lexical.org.uk http://www.lexical.org.uk/ work - email: adw27@esc.cam.ac.uk http://www.esc.cam.ac.uk/ radio: http://www.cur1350.co.uk/ (10pm Fri) http://www.lexical.org.uk/blog/ "/Peep/". Arf! (AACC-094) - 77'05" A sexy but not entirely orgasmic compilation of tracks which feature women and girls 'at it', moaning and groaning for over an hour. Among the artists featured, there's Aguaturbia, Aphrodite's Child and the Chakachas, and many more - mostly session bands. Sadly, there's no serious listing of the songs or of their artists, making this an all too exploitative fullpricer in an all too corny packaging. And it's mastered straight from disc, obviously - not from the original tapes. Rita's "Erotica" is not present here, and neither are Man, but there's two versions of "Je t'aime (moi non plus)". Titillating but not truly exciting either.
