It's on MTV2 at 1AM, Sunday and 2AM Thursday, and on MTV some time on Monday morning (1am?) The MTV2 version is better as there are no ads during the whole 2 hour show. The only downside is it's a bit repetitive week-on-week. But generally it's a must-see. But I really like him as a writer and got through the whole of his previous book Lights Out for the Territory, even though it took me three years. This looks very similar - - - dense, poetic prose about London's margins and his mates, many of whom are fortunately interesting, wrapped up in a concentrated splenetic (or fond) series of essays. Lights Out is good, but London Orbital's way better I think. A mere 7.99 sterling in paperback (Penguin) now. Ideal for popping in the backpack for those psychogeographical jaunts around the M25 ! If Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield saved the Virgin label from extinction & began Richard Branson's meteoric rise as an entrepreneur, then Phaedra gave it the cash to keep it going through it's infancy. Edgar Froese recorded Aqua first I believe - with the artificial head system developed by Gunther Brunschen. Then Epsilon In Malaysian Pale followed. What a pretentious album title by the way! I think in 1974 Aqua was interesting because of the effects on headphones.Although the quality of the vinyl & your stereo made a massive difference too.Not withstanding your stylus ! Nowadays it would be regarded as a bit naff & boring no doubt. It was pretty full - memories are slightly blurred by the fact that I saw quite a few gigs at the same venue around the same time. I remember it being very much a stop-start affair - lots of technical problms, with roadies trying to fix amps etc. Ultimately some great moments - but not a very coherent go with all the stoppages, the bus from burnley etc. Probably the clearest memory I have is of the opening instrumental, Cross of Iron (aka Incubation off the Komakino flexi) with IC playing the Vox guitar (as per the LWTUA vid). After the gig I remember thinking how much I was looking forward to seeing an obviously very great band on a night when they weren't trying to play everything through one amp. Sadly the chance never presented itself. I nearly went to see them in Bury a month or so later - this turned out to be the famous 'riot' gig where the skinheads trashed the venue after IC was too ill to do more than a couple of songs. It'd have been great to see that gig - but I might not be here to tell the tale! A footnote to the Preston gig - I'm not the only ICer who was there. Support that night was Slight Seconds, a Manchester band featuring the vocal talents of Mr K Eden esq.
