This could, of course, cause problems for sponsors Channel 4 who apparently are due to broadcast the awards pre-watershed. Posteverything get occasional feedback forms (created on the feedback page on the posteverything site) which make enquiries about wire related items as if Wire were the only band whose stuff posteverything sells. As it happens posteverything currently hosts 14 labels releasing a very large number of artists between them and its staff can't really be expected to know what the hell any particular person is going on about if no context is given (typically enquirers won't even mention the name wire, pinkflag or even the name of a particular release!). This causes some annoyance at PE HQ and some round robin e.mailing to figure out what it s about which will eventually end up in my inbox. Very often the information requested is clearly viewable on the posteverything site! The mail order link on pinkflag goes directly to posteverything because posteverything is pinkflag's official mail order site and pinkflag as an entity is not set up to do direct mail order. This can, I understand, cause some confusion and a more elegant solution is being sought for the medium term. But if you are on the page that you use for posteverything feedback you are at least a couple of pages deep in a site that says posteverything in big letters on the top not only that but there are clear instructions to the right hand side of the form that are peppered with references to posteverything and contain none to wire or pinkflag. Mail order is very customer oriented and an organisation like posteverything stands or falls on it s conscientious attitude to customer relations. We try to answer all enquiries no matter how obscure! If you have an enquiry about availability of a certain item or something doesn t work right on the site someone will always get back to you as soon as humanly possible, in fact we rely on customer feedback to keep us on our toes. Just please remember that in filling in a feedback form you are generating an e.mail to a person sitting in an office in London who doesn't necessarily know all the ins and outs of Wire or pinkflag! Anyhow just to put it in context, posteverything gets an equal number of e.mails from people who think posteverything is the Leaf Label! The packaging suggests a fan has done it and is quite happy to screw the band... I wouldn't mind if they'd managed to reproduce the sound quality of the film that was shown at the RFH in 2000, but this piece of shit sounds like it was taken from some rubbish realplayer stream. The arsewipe has even mastered it in First Fast Audio. Either that or Colin Newman was taking hits of helium that night. So now I need a varispeed turntable to get it back to its correct speed. I wonder if Selectadisc of Soho will be able to provide me one free of charge so that I can properly enjoy their illegal nine quid product? Chairspotters note that the 2nd song (Former Airline) hasn't been credited on the sleeve. Pathetic! I suggest all who've been suckered into buying this abortion return it to the shop and demand a full refund. They've even included a crap burn of Our Swimmer 7" tagged on the end which sounds like it was copied on a shite system from a CD-R of D&E. What a fantastic bonus!!! All of you get a little, easy-to-ignore e-mail when you s*bscribe to this list. There are three rules. This is the third: >3) Flames will not be tolerated. Keep a civil tongue, cheeking or no, in >your head. Graeme's initial exit from the list was the culmination of him flaunting this rule to no end. Even if you thought Mileta's posts were tiresome and bereft of value (as Graeme did), there was no excuse for the on- and off-list invective that Graeme heaped on him. Graeme's antisocial behaviors (berating other list members, name calling, and off-list harassing e-mails) escalated despite warnings on and off list. Watching this go on made me profoundly uncomfortable, and I received a steady stream of off-list complaints about Graeme's behavior. I did not actually kick him off the list at the time, but he more or less quit before he could be fired. Graeme's second exit from the list was the culmination of him flaunting this rule to no end. Even if you think Tim is a middle-class fat bastard who has sold his entrails to The Man (as Graeme does), there was no excuse for the on- and off-list invective that Graeme heaped upon him. Watching this go on made me profoundly uncomfortable, and I received a steady stream of off-list complaints about Graeme's behavior. Remember that when Graeme sent an on-list reply to Michael Flaherty's private e-mail, Graeme said that he'd likely soon be following Michael off the list? I suspect Graeme wanted to go out with a bang, so he forced my hand with a final salvo against his bete noire. What makes any of you think it will go any differently if he comes back? Interestingly enough, they're on 12XU records. Wait - Huh? (^_^) http://www.12xu.net from the FAQ: Q: is 12XU affiliated with Wire in some capacity? A: No, unless you mean the time-honored relationship between visionary artists and sleazy entrepreneurs without an original idea to save their lives. Wire are the visionary artists, by the way. The label name 12XU, is stolen without permission from Wire's composition of the same name, which can be found on their Pink Flag album. Off topic. Well bless my cotton socks! I've seen the future of rock'n'roll and his name is... .er.Julian Cope! OK, so he must be forty five if he's a day, and the last time he had a top 30 hit S Club 8 were S Club Babies, but this - and I quote the ticket - 'post-punk primadonna with electric rock'n'roll band' ROCKED!!! But if seeing the band - featuring old right hand man Donald Ross Skinner - walking on like some Blue Peter "here's one I made earlier" ragbag collection of glam rockers that made The Sweet look stylish was FUNNY, that was nothing compared with when the man himself followed, with long flowing locks, cutesy shades and army garb. Oh yeah, did I mention the beard? The beard of LA Woman like proportions! BLOODY HELL!!! I can almost hear my mother saying "He's got such a lovely face. Why would he want to hide it!" And I've felt pretty much the same ways about Julian's music in recent years. Here's a bloke that can churn out pretty Passionate Friend toons with the best of them, but since his fab retro take on space age pop, Interpreter (1996), has instead bombarded us with ambient drones or bare knuckled metal. And it was the latter he brought to entertain us with last night. And you know what? It was colossal! Opening with a churning metal riff with added dare-ya-to-stand-still funkiness, it was fairly obvious from the start that we weren't going to be treated to Tiny Children tonight. An awesome grinding rendition of his recent Like A Motherfucker single only reinforced that view, with it's 'Led Zep with Mick Tucker on drums' hard rock glamminess. And in case we were in any doubt of the artist formerly known as Kevin's manifesto, he stood proudly in front of us, a military baseball cap now added to the mad Viet Vet look and pulled down low, and announced that he was after some 'monolithic loudness' and wanted some "Anti-Roman thuggishness" from the audience! In fact, his audience communication deserved a definite A- with little pearls like "This one's ripped off Ray Charles. It's called Love Peace & Fuck", and then ending it "When I say I love you, you best believe I love you. F.U.C.K.!" Skinner, who has started to resemble a certain notorious royal butler - albeit one with a rather wide blonde streak down the centre of his head - was relegated to bass for the opening numbers to allow Brain Donor's guitar hero Dogman to alternate between his heavier-than-thou churning riffs and, at times, excessive fret wankery. Donald then, however, picked up the 6 string for the triple trip down memory lane of Hanging Out & Hung Up On The Line (with the original spirit of '76 thrashy feel being replaced by a stomping glam beat c/o of Donalds brother Gary on the drums), Pulsar and Spacehopper before returning to bass for more Brain (dead?) Donor metal, including the two most tuneful moments on their Love Peace & Fuck LP, Get Off Your Pretty Face and the Stooges-like She Saw Me Coming (man, this was of almost Funhouse proportions!). Oh yeah, we also got a 'song about road rage' entitled White Van that sounded like Damned Damned Damned if Vanian had been backed by Iron Maiden. Now I'd be the first to admit that doesn't sound a particularly enticing prospect, but live.PHEW!!! And all the time our Jules was stomping about the stage, swinging off yet another custom built mic stand and reaching into the lap-it-all-up audience like he knows he's the greatest ever front man I firmly believe he is. Eventually something had to give and he toned things down for a beautiful Las Vegas Basement, before the one false note of the night - some lengthy dirge about the mud being too hard that aimed for epic proportions but achieved what I would have considered impossible before the show - me wanting a 'proper' Julian Cope song to finish so we could have some more of that Brain Donor shit! But from hereon it was less Brain Donor and more a great Julian Cope show. Shot Down, the usual lengthy version of Safesurfer (surely the post-punk Freebird!), an excellent Sunspots, and to cap it all, a magnificent Reynard The Fox. Introduced as "Everyone needs a death and resurrection song. This is mine - without the resurrection!" - and complete with the obligatory 'plastic bag with plastic handles' monologue, it was delivered with mock-disgust rather than genuine shock / horror before Julian got down to some equally obligatory writhing on the stage - watched with genuine gum-chewing bemusement by the baby-faced Lloyd Webber lookalike, the unlikely named Holy McGrail, on what I was assured was an ancient analogue Korgi. And then there was a quick goodbye and he was gone. No encore. No Teardrops. Some cynics might want to paraphrase Bowie and say "This ain't rock'n' roll. This is comedy" - and I certainly laughed out loud more times than I can remember. But I guess this was "rock'n'roll" alright. And at least I danced as I laughed.
