Dead rednecks vs lame bedwetters. Coldplay are without redeeming features whatsoever. Only the existence of Starsailor proves it is possible to have fewer redeeming features. Which means Starsailor's reddeming feature factor is negative. However Lynyrd Skynyrd are responsible for creating quite possibly my least favourite piece of music ever, ever, ever - the maudlin 498-minute fretwank that is Freebird. The only thing worse would be a Coldplay cover of Freebird. At which point I think I'd hear the clatter of hooves as Death, Famine, Pestilence and Adam Clayton ride over the horizon. Actually a Starsailor cover of Freebird would be worse. Without the benefit of seeing them live, and on first listen, so far >I'd say BSP=Microdisney 2003. > I've owned The Decline Of British Sea Power for a few weeks now and am still quite impressed with it. The band reminds me of Aladdin Sane/Diamond Dogs-era David Bowie than anything else, but that's a good thing. My current listen of choice is The Rapture - Echoes. Echoes has not been officially released here in the States yet, but I bought a used promotional copy of the CD for $7 a couple of days ago and have been spinning it pretty much constantly. The Rapture has been compared a good bit in reviews to Wire, Gang Of Four, etc. I think that they sound a lot more like "Bad Life"-era Public Image Ltd., though. There are many more comparisons that I could make, though. Remember Happy Mondays? The Rapture sounds like the Happy Mondays on steroids. "Sister Savior" is probably my favorite song of 2003 so far.
