We'll be guessing tunes again soon. The horror! Long time since we heard from Miles. Bart The New Yahoo! Anything they say that might be of interest - and from what I can tell it's very little - gets replied to anyway. And whilst like Dan I too am a big Crass fan I refuse to stoop to the level of debating with somebody who evidently has a problem with disabled people. The only people who have problems with disabled people are fascists. Is he going to start having a go at people on the list on account of their ethnicity or sexuality next? I have a Hood album (Cold House) which has never really registered with me but live they're something else - much louder, great command of dynamics, an impressive drummer and a mix of guitars and samples which works brilliantly. Unfortunately they announced this was the samples guy's last performance - his sound is so integral to the mix that I hope they can find a suitable replacement (I'm showing my ignorance of the technology here in that I really have no idea if I could step up to the equipment and reproduce what he's doing or whether he does something different to anyone else - I suspect the latter). The third excellent support band at the ICA this year, after The Fence Collective and the nonpareil Biting Tongues. Clinic played a short greatest hits set. Little new stuff unveiled tonight although the Domino website mentions a forthcoming album but that didn't matter - a Clinic classic always gets me going and they had the good grace to play Porno, one of the great tracks of the 90s. Fine night all told, despite the ICA Bar prices - difficult to get away with less than 3-50 for a beer. Particular hits with me; Palace Music/Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Flying Saucer Attack's cover of Outdoor Miner, the Clinic track, Smog, Papa M, Clearlake, Hood, Four Tet, and To Rococo Rot. Special prizes will also be awarded to the youngest contestant, the contestant who traveled the farthest to attend, and the people's favorite. This will be the first time this truly unique, off-beat public event will take place in America. Previous championships have been held in Norway, Sweden, and Germany. Future world championships will be in Berlin in 2005 and London in 2007. Over 100 foreign contestants are expected from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, Italy, Sweden, Norway, the Ukraine, Turkey, Canada, and Mexico, including numerous former world, European, and German champions, some of whom are shown here. Other notable contestants include Ted Sedman, President of London9s Handlebar Club, who was once mentioned in the Guinness Book as having Britain9s longest moustache, and Bruce Roe, the first and only American ever to win a trophy at the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Organizers hope for a large turnout of bearded and moustached Americans to compete against the dominant German team. Among the distinguished judges will be America9s top downhill ski racer Daron Rahlves, Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Agosti, Carson City Mayor Ray Masayko, and former Carson City resident Mark Twain. ? The contestants will march past 40,000 spectators at the annual Nevada Day parade on the morning of November 1. The competition will take place following the parade, at the Community Center, 851 E. Williams St., Carson City, in an Oktoberfest-style atmosphere, complete with beer, bratwurst, oompah music by the Al Gruber Band, and much more. "Big Joy" Mishiel will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. Admission: contestants $25, spectators $10. Doors open at 2:00 pm. Preliminary competition 3:00 pm. Final judging 7:00 pm. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Oct 2003 09:21:54 +0200 From: Bart van Damme Subject: [idealcopy] [OT] Extensive Guide To Electronic Music http://www.ishkur.com/features/music/index.htm# (better skip the intro) "As you can see, this is a pretty massive and comprehensive thingy.
