Hi Robert: I guess it would be bad form to point out that you spelled "mentally" wrong, but the irony is too hard to resist. But hey, at least there's no mention of coprophagia or the use of words like "buttfucking." When I grew up, anyone with a disability rode the short bus. In my kids school, they currently mainstream, which is probably better. As far as EC, I blame middle age and too much hanging around with Burt Bacharach. Plus, that whole Grizzly Adams bearded phase he went through. I was going to say that his last record was pretty good, but then I realized that I can't even remember the name of it, so, um, I guess I'm wrong. Not bought one since Spike, some of which I liked a lot. > Get Happy has held up really well, though. Haven't heard it in a while, but I know I'll still love it. It was like some great 60's soul compilation. I'm playing Julian Cope's solo debut at the mo (World Shut Your Mouth). This sounds really good nowadays. The sheer electric side one - JC does Nuggets on Bandy's First Jump, the touching Strasbourg ("If I were France and you were Germany, what an alliance that would be" - awww!!!) and (deep breath) the instrumental bit in An Elegant Chaos where the bass riff creeps under that phased gr is masterly (and that's to say nothing of it's beautifully silly "that's not to say there's anything wrong with being a cow anyway" lyrics). And then the relentless Kolly Kibbbers Birthday opens side two (the bit where ex-TX drummer Gary Dwyer plays over the drum machine towards the end is fab! Where is this man - he's one of the best drummers I've ever heard, for god's sake. The last I heard he was a ski instructor - Christ, if he was as good at ski-instructing as beating pig skins, the UK would be competing with the best in the winter Olympics!). Side 2 also features the sheer beauty of Head Hangs Low, the pop splendour of The Greatness & Perfection (it could have been on A Hard Days Night!) with the baroque (and still rather odd after all these years) Lunatic & Fire Pistol to wrap things up. Almost 20yrs old and still sounding fab! Love it! And looking forward to my 1st JC gig in 3 yrs later this month...
