"Warez" are illegally-copied programs, originally, but the term has been extended to encompass mp3s, movies, and other such files commonly traded. A "warez list" would be an email list on which these are traded. I don't indulge, myself. - - Andrew - -- email: andrew@lexical.org.uk http://www.lexical.org.uk/ Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge http://www.esc.cam.ac.uk/ DJ, CUR1350 - http://www.cur1350.co.uk/ blog: http://www.lexical.org.uk/blog/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Oct 2003 12:47:39 +0200 From: "Jan J Noorda" Subject: [idealcopy] New ceedees I became last week a package from posteverything with some of their latest. The ceedees were Akatombo: Trace Elements. There is already written about this record that this one is a nice one. It has a dense sound with lot of influences in it. It starts with a Labradford like guitar with a simple a gogo beat on a snare. Drums n' bass with voices and noises follows. Metal bass guitar sound. It sometimes reminds me to Scorn. I even think about our own Urban Dance Squad. If someone has seen them life knows maybe what I mean. Then suddenly the sound seems to be quiet, but what you here at the very background is the same tension. A piano sound can not let this disappear. And then at the end a Thomas Koener like (very beautiful) sound. Even silence has become tension. But there is hope. This is indeed a soundtrack to alienation in a modern city. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Oct 2003 14:04:38 +0200 From: "Jan J Noorda" Subject: [idealcopy] More New ceedees I became last week a package from posteverything with some of their latest. Another one Aurelie: Desde Que Naci It could be a good decision to take this ceedee after Akotombo. The sound has a same kind of density. Nevertheless there are not so many "instruments"to hear. The mood is more introvert. Elegiac says their description on the Swim-site. It also says their newer work radiates a warmer glow with hope. Anway a good record to chill-out. Perhaps more comfortable then silence. And then Project Dark: Grammaphone De Luxe This is a ceedee with a total different approach. How serious the first two ceedees sound like. This sounds hilarious, but....they are brilliant. I don't know how they get their final recording, but it looks like they use old seven inches and change them into fresh new or whatever music. These tracks are released in limited amounts of 50. And now after a long period of time they've chosen several of these for a ceedee. Some are recorded with the help from others, like BRUCE GILBERT. He remixed a track called Treizinnerhume. (Three sentences from the Philosopher David Hume?). It is a drone like piece with a very clear open sound. You can hear the details very good. But a big contrast with the other pieces of the album. This is very different, or is this the kind of rebellious character of Bruce? But that are the other pieces also. Rebellious, dramatic oversized, and very funny. Great Ceedee. Favourite track: "There's No Place Like Hope" now, but this can change in a minute. Other interesting The Einstuerzende Neubauten Supporters only ceedee. ( They go on with the project and restart by going for the supporters only cd/dvd 2) Biosphere on Radio France Luciano Berio: Symfonia (to quote someone does not mean to support that one, but more compare, or even to resist to him) p.s. To those of us that love popular culture this matters. I think its a good idea. The Top 40 should represent what the general populace is listening to at any one time. It should form a historical record. Alas for the last 10 years it has been more reflective of how effective the marketing campaign has been, or how many of their obsessive fanbase could be mobilised to buy the single (see John Otway) for a laugh to get their idol on the increasingly irrelevant TOTP. Make no mistake, 8-21 year olds are consuming music as much, if not more than they did in the 60s 70s and 80s....its just that they don't do this by buying 7" singles from Woolworths. The music industry is so slow to catch on it can't find a way to measure it, I think measuring downloads and cheap 2 track CD singles are an excellent idea...puts everyone on a level playing field....none of this multiple version CD single crap that we had through the 90s.....buy 3 different versions of some shit Ash song with 'exclusive live tracks' on each CD...hence Ash get to number 16 in the charts because their 10,000 fanbase bought the same CD 3 times and it plummets to no 46 next week. Those days are gone. So yes,any attempt to make the charts reflect what the majority of the British public like and listen to is absolutely vital. I hope it will mark the end to the days when Manic Street Preachers can get into the top 10 on a marketing scam. > this from BBC6... > > Charts to get massive MOT > Published 30 09 03 > > The chart is to get an MOT with new cheaper two track CD singles that'll be > available next year in an attempt to boost single sales. > > The Official UK Charts Company reckon the new format will be significantly > cheaper than standard CD singles.
