I'm of the opinion (and Live Forever only cemented this) that Britpop as a societal phenomenon was dire - but some of the bands involved in some sense (the Auteurs, Blur, Pulp spring to mind) had significant talent, and there were some great singles. The actual scene, though, was a lot of chancers and media types creating a snowstorm on publishers' expenses, which is a fairly loathsome sight for all concerned. What's remarkable is that some of the really good singles were by otherwise distinctly unexciting bands (Travis' "All I Want to Do is Rock", for instance). > I'm in the minority here I guess, but I thought early Oasis > were exciting (I loved Supersonic!), Blur made some fab pop singles and Pulp > had perhaps the best pop star front man since Moz.
