I just thought amidst the rest of the dross, that Vegas and What Do I Do Now were OK, though admittedly I haven't heard in them in a long time. Can anyone tell me why Ms Wener was given so much air time on tonight's otherwise enjoyable Britpop programme? I would have preferred more from Oasis tribute act Wonderwall myself. Now they were worth listening to! (BTW Did anyone read the Strokes article in this months MOJO. I like them, but what a dull read that was) ////// a lengthy yawn if ever there was one. do they have anything worth saying at all? sorry , they pass me by completely. you got high hopes for this album then? I'll reserve judgement on that one. I'm looking forward to it, though I just hope it's produced better than the last one. As much as I'd loved Modern Age single, certain tracks on the lp could have done with a bit more life. /////i meant the over-the-top stage act rather than her looks. can't hear the banshees there , they were interesting and original , 2 adjectives i'd never apply to wendy & co. p There's one track on the 1st ep - that now seems to have become called Master - that's *very* like Siouxsie. meanwhile back to the GO4... ////////ah keith , its great. you heard the peel sessions? p No. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I loved Natural's Not In It, but otherwise I stand by my point that - though I like the LP (YES I DO!) - the first two singles are the best thing on it. Their later OGWT performance was excellent too. But as much as I loved that slashing gtr sound, there were better things going on round that time IMO - and leaving Wire out of the equation here cos they'd gone quiet round that time - TX, Joy Division, Compass Kumpas, PIL, 1st two Bunnymen LP's, Magazine, Associates, Banshees, The Black Album, The Fall, early Costello, 17 Seconds, The Sound, Scary Monsters, and as bizarre as it sounds now, early, ahem, Simple Minds are just a few things that spring to mind that I much preferred from that period (Yeah I know a couple there will be met with derision, but hey ho!). Been listening to Magazine a lot this week. Obviously the first 3 albums were great, but it's easy to forget that they were a great singles band too, particularly the 1st 3 singles. Touch & Go was always destined to be the inferior follow-up to Shot By Both Sides, but surely it's a great single in it's own right. And I've always been extremely partial to the organ soaked Give Me Everything. But the one track that I've enjoyed most this week is My Tulpa. I don't recall thinking it was like early Roxy Music at the time (Devoto's vocal style wasn't exactly like Ferry's!), but now when I hear it, it's just so obvious. The driving beat, the Eno style noodling c/o Mr Formula, the Manazanera-like gtr and - to hammer home the point - their even's an Andy McKay like sax solo towards the end. Fabulous track!
