G'day B. and all: Remember this one, when we were on about Robert Gray's name (Gotobed)? I Need To Go To Bed At my computer I show no fear. Totally above reproach. But the light is gone, the night is here, And morning does fast encroach. Yet no desire do I have To sleep, though I feel dead. And though it hurts me to admit, I need to go to bed. Logged off Chat an hour ago. Said I was turning in. They all were nice. They all were kind, Each said "Goodnight Friend" But here I sit, typing away, Making rhymes instead. Without a doubt I know for sure, I need to go to bed. How can it be I am this way... Stubborn to the core? Knowing what is right and what I need, Yet continue to ignore. I stop to yawn and scratch my nose. My eyes are Blood Shot Red. Still onward I must push these keys... I need to go to bed. The only poem I've sat to write, Hope it turns out grand. It won't win me any prize But will forever stand. And now that I have writ'n all this That was swimming in my head. I think at last I'll bow to nod, And finally go to bed. by Buddy Stacy Ed ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 12:25:05 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] It's not the side effects of the cocaine >>>Rock &Roll Animal. Believe it or not I only got Rock'n'Roll Animal a week or so back. It wasn't one I was particularly bothered about getting - I knew some of it anyway - but I was reading that To Major Tom (The Bowie Letters - Damn. I knew I should have put more effort into getting my Bolan opus Goodbye Bopping Imp published!) and the writer was going on about how great it was and it sort of coincided with seeing it for #4.50! Verdict...well it's not great is it. The intro to Sweet Jane (which has never been a fave of mine anyway) is 70's rock gtr hell, though it does get better. But Lou did some great stuff in the 70's - I like Transformer and Berlin a lot for example. It's the later Growing Up In Public that I hate! Think I've mentioned before that it's my least fave LP by someone I like a lot. Hands up who's bought the last one (the one based on the works of...was it EA Poe? I can't remember though I can say with certainty it wasn't JK Rowling though I can imagine Lou singing "Harry went down the dungeon and wrestled with a snake" - I've seen the movies, sorry....) Is it as bad as it was made out to be? It's bound to be going cheap soon... > excellent Lou live in New York set from 83-84 recently. "Ever Get the Feeling You've Been Cheated?: The '70s Punk Rebellion" will feature tunes from the full gamut of '70s punk artists, ranging from obvious masters to flashes-in-the-pan to artists initially labeled punk but later transcended the genre. The set's producer Gary Stewart explains its criteria in a statement: "Before there was punk the genre -- narrowly defined by records that were loud, fast, confrontational -- there was punk the movement, where anything that was rebellious, intelligent but non-pretentious, and showed a sense of chaos or (more importantly) a sense of fun, was accepted and embraced." The set features songs from 1973 to 1980, by which time the movement had shifted into a number of subgenres. "Classic" punkers like the Ramones, the Clash, Dead Kennedys, the Jam, the Damned, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex, Wire and Generation X are featured, as are artists such as Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, Joy Division, Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, Television, the Pretenders, the Boomtown Rats and Blondie, who were originally aligned with the punk movement but later became associated with other genres. "The '70s Punk Rebellion" also boasts material from short-lived acts like the Adverts, the Rezillos and Eddie & the Hot Rods and punk progenitors such as Iggy & the Stooges, the Modern Lovers and the New York Dolls. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 20:44:18 +0100 From: "Andrew Lumbard" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] [OT] Cruyff (in the Bedroom) >> It is if you come from Birmingham: ) http://b3ta.com/birmingham/ (YOU MAY WANT TO LOWER YOUR VOLUME!) However whenever I hear Cruyff's name I'm reminded of the excellent summaries given by former Man City and England manager Joe Mercer during the 1974 world cup (the height of Cruyff's powers). After one particularly impressive bodyswerve, Mercer opined (adopts thick northern accent) "Eeh, that were Joanne Cruff at 'is skintillizing best!" Still it's so far off. I understand the difficulties though. It's funny how some dutch sport-critics desperately try to make foreign names sound as authentic as possible. From my youth I remember (swedish born and Feyenoord then) Ove Kindvall pronounced in at least 10 different ways. With the arrival of some African players in the 80's and 90's you could clearly hear how watching all those Roots episodes finally payed off for them. > However whenever I hear Cruyff's name I'm reminded of the excellent summaries > given by former Man City and England manager Joe Mercer during the 1974 world > cup (the height of Cruyff's powers). After one particularly impressive > bodyswerve, Mercer opined (adopts thick northern accent) "Eeh, that were > Joanne Cruff at 'is skintillizing best!" Nice one. Cruyff himself is also known here for his almost taoistic aphorisms of which "Every disadvantage has its advantage" is best known. This haiku-like one is also quite beautiful: "If at each game you score a goal more than your adversary you will be champion for sure" (rhyming is coincidental btw) Bart ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Aug 2003 09:39:42 +0200 From: Bart van Damme Subject: Re: [idealcopy] [OT] Cruyff (in the Bedroom) >> Denis Law was fortunate >> He's got props at his mention 'cause he's vex >> Black thong in raucous waters, fibrillate! >> Pretty unsual, considering he's a T. rex > Keith > that' s pure poetry ! Darn it Keith, lost it from the Heretical Rhyme Generator! ;-) The above was generated at http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/Poem Chris, using only Keith's first line. This one was actually Keith's original (and imo the better one). >> Denis Law was fortunate >> to have a name that rhymed with score. >> Poor old Roger Hunt >> wasn't quite so lucky. Strange thing is, there're about three of these shops in this city and they're all managed by fat old hippies - must be in the job-description. ...and they all play Jethro Tull! Live!
