If anyone else here is attending the show, let me know and maybe we can meet up there. I'm a fairly new fan of The Fall, only owning Live At The Witch Trials and Totally Wired: The Rough Trade Anthology. I've been searching for The A-Sides, but am having trouble finding it around here. What can I expect from the band tomorrow night? I've heard that it's a pretty much hit-or-miss affair depending on Mark E. Smith, so hopefully tomorrow night will be a thumbs-up night. What are the band's more dependable songs that are heard in concert, if any? Both of the CD's that I own from The Fall are quite incredible. Live At The Witch Trials was apparently mastered from a scratchy original vinyl in the basement of a moldy house, but the songs are still spot-on. Spiritualized used to be brilliant and I've bigged 'em up on this list before. But then I had the misfortunte to hear their new LP...it is without doubt the biggest pile of dross I have ever heard. It sounds like someone gave the Stereophonics loads of drugs and told them to do an album of Spiritualized pastiche tracks. Lots of great bands did shit albums...The Beach Boys did 'Summer in Paradise', The Beatles did 'Let it Be', Wire did 'Manscape', Aphex Twin did 'Druqs' the list goes on and on but few bands have reached a career low like Spiritualized are about to reach with their new LP "Amazing Grace"...it is fucking awful. I saw The Fall June 24th at Graceland (formerly The Offramp) in Seattle. Actually, they were quite good - borderline amazing. They played a good selection of late period Fall tunes, including a few from (what I'm guessing is) the forthcoming album, plus a few classics. Mark E. Smith was in good form, and played the entire set (not necessarily a given...). They finished with "I Am Damo Suzuki" and left the stage. I was pretty sure that was it, but we got an encore! A near-metallic version of Dr. Buck's Letter that had everyone in the place going mental! It was worth the price of admission to hear/see that version. I'm not the only one who thought this show was very good - though she really doesn't go into detail...: http://www.thestranger.com/2003-07-03/livewire.html Cheers, Paul P.S. No wonder they got dropped by BMG. See now you've just whet my appetite, Tim! Fand thinks that band he likes have released crap album - is there not something a wee bit intriging about that? I've read that this is their garage (in the old sense of the word) album. Certainly, it would be hard to make an album 'bigger' than the last one, and without hearing the new one I'm glad they haven't tried. And as the likes of Psychotic Reaction have featured pretty heavily on the recent KA playlist, Spiritualised-go-garage appeals to me.
