Top anorak work there from young Robinson! >>Never knew about the Shitehouse Family connection.<< The pay's good I guess! Don't have a problem with the Kane Gang actually - bit smooooth but one of the better exponents of 80s white boy soul. Oddly, the cover actually carries the band name and title on the front, which otherwise appears the same as my own copy, as well as all other copies I've ever seen. Anybody else ever seen this? - -------------- Tony mentioned a disappointment with recent Wire lyrics. Some do seem a bit more throw-away than in the past. I'm perhaps reading throw-away into brevity, although Being Watched and You Can't Leave Now seem a bit obvious. Nonetheless, I think in most cases the 'stripped' approach works, and we're still left with (volume of words wise) more substantial pieces such as Spent, 99.9, Agfers etc. Lyrically I've often found Wire to be pretty impenetrable, usually to the point of intrigue, but sometimes to the point of infuriation; in fact one good friend of mine turned away somewhat from Wire in the past because he couldn't find any way to relate to them lyrically - he grew tired of trying to engage emotionally with their music when the lyrics were too often - for him - far too private and obscured. This is cool. I personally wish that Lydon would get Public Image Ltd. together for a tour (and remaster the PiL catalogue while they're at it), but I'd jump at the chance to see Sex Pistols if they come play to us rednecks down here Georgia or elsewhere in the Southeast. I became a fan of the Sex Pistols back in 1986, which is a bit late in the game, so one of these concerts would be a good time. Now, if Husker Du would only get back together and tour, things would be complete again. You could time your visit to coincide with Saville's talk at the Design Museum (2 Sept from memory); if you want to do this, I suggest booking tickets very soon as they tend to sell out fast. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Jun 2003 12:38:43 -0700 From: Ed Special Subject: Re: [idealcopy] 154 vinyl + Wire Lyrics > Tony mentioned a disappointment with recent Wire lyrics. . . . . . . > Lyrically I've often found Wire to be pretty impenetrable, usually to > the > point of intrigue, but sometimes to the point of infuriation; in fact > one > good friend of mine turned away somewhat from Wire in the past because > he > couldn't find any way to relate to them lyrically - he grew tired of > trying > to engage emotionally with their music when the lyrics were too often > - for > him - far too private and obscured. > Ian B Wire's (and especially their off-Wire projects) lyrics often being impenetrable and off the beat-en paths is, to me, one of the alluring aspects. Some thing are meant to be challenging, puzzling or bewildering. I wouldn't give up or turn away just because I don't fully understand or "get it". "Badges? We don't need no stinkin badges!" They were playin without Hugh Cornwall. I had no big expectations before going, but now I think, it is nice to see Jean-Jaques Burnell playing like in the old days. Probably they are in a kind reunion-mood. I had never seen them playing, but lucky I was they played a lot of tracks from their first 4 albums. And it sounded not bad after so many years. Nice Memories: We had in the early eighties a radio-programm in the Netherlands called Raufaser and everyone who knows that programm knows it ended with Princess of the Street by the Stranglers. Especially the bass piece by Burnell. Bart do you still know that programm? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2003 00:16:19 EDT From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] 154 vinyl + Wire Lyrics In a message dated 6/14/03 1:03:27 PM, ian@ibarrett.fsnet.co.uk writes: > > >Anybody else ever seen this? no, but i did see several brand new vinyl copies of chairs missing at a local record shop. so, who's pressing these? or should i ask whose time machine they're traveling through? ;o) on the lyrics subject. i've always admitted to being horrible at deciphering, and sometimes even interpreting them. the emotional reaction i have to wire comes from the textures they create musically and vocally (not lyrically). much like touching silk...or skin...or steel. - -paul (not a paw touching kinda guy) c.d. www.mp3.com/winteracademy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2003 00:21:26 EDT From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] murder global In a message dated 6/14/03 4:53:18 PM, xj23@yahoo.com writes: >What the hell has he been doing all of these years??!! keith levene was a customer of the video store i worked around 84/85. i bought commercial zone from him and asked him what he was up to. he told me he was going to make children's music (his wife was also pregnant at the time). i don't think that project ever happened, and that was pretty much the last i heard until now. - -paul c.d. www.mp3.com/winteracademy ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V6 #175 *******************************
