Any New York or Toronto Pistol fans? The Pistols attitude seems to be the opposite of Wire, who want to play new stuff and not be tied to their past. I can, however, understand Lydon not wanting to record anything new for the Pistols - they were about 'youth' after all, but what's happened to his, erm, solo career? ANARCHY IN THE USA! Punk veterans THE SEX PISTOLS are to tour North America this summer. The legendary outfit have confirmed two shows for August, and are expected to announce more dates in the coming weeks. But, according to frontman John Lydon (Johnny Rotten), the band will never write or record another original song. He told Rolling Stone: "The reason I do the Pistols is that's where I started and that makes things clear how I have not changed. In any kind of different music I go into, the spirit is the same . . . but you will not get me doing new Pistols." The band's original line-up - Lydon (vocals), Steve Jones (guitar), Paul Cook (drums) and Glen Matlock (bass) - play Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York on August 21 and Toronto Molson Ampitheater on August 25. Sex Pistols split in 1978 after a final performance at San Francisco Winterland Ballroom, by which time Sid Vicious had replaced Matlock on bass. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in 1979. The original line-up reformed for the 'Filthy Lucre' tour of the UK in 1996 and also reunited last summer to play a London show as a rebuttal to Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee celebrations. Lydon added: "For the first ten years after the Pistols broke up, I didn't want to go back there. I put it right out of my mind, but then I came round to realise that there's nothing to be ashamed of. I love what I did, and I love what I do. "I think one album (1977's 'Never Mind The Bollocks') is all we ever needed. There's no point after that." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 18:03:08 +0100 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Fw: FA-DIDDLY-QA-QA! Hmm, it looks suspiciously like the Kraftwerk boys are pumping out various versions of Tour de France here, with a little other new material, although I'd be delighted to be proved wrong. Reminds me of the quote by dissatisfied band member Karl Bartos - "It's like I have this Jumbo Jet in the garden but it never takes off". I have though, somehow, managed to see Kraftwerk live three times over the years - highly entertaining, even if the second and third times had basically the same set albeit a decade apart. Another the Keith (about to go to see a Pink Floyd tribute band against my better judgement, who may be playing The Wall in its entirety. If so I may take sometime to recover). - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Keith Astbury Sent: 13 June 2003 10:38 To: idealcopy@smoe.org Subject: [idealcopy] Fw: FA-DIDDLY-QA-QA!
