I re-listened to it for the first time in months two days ago and it still sounds like utter crap. In my opinion, there is a huge difference between the remastered EMI edition of Pink Flag and the old Restless Retro edition. I originally bought the Restless Retro CD a few years ago and, while the music itself is perfect, the sound volume is found wanting. It was difficult to for me to listen to the Restless Retro edition of Pink Flag unless I had the volume turned quite high in my car, home stereo, etc. Last year, though, I replaced Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154 with the EMI remastered reissues of all three. The sound is much much better, especially with Pink Flag. I can play the EMI Pink Flag on volume level 4 to get the same that I had to turn the Restless Retro Pink Flag up to volume level 8. Also, the EMI remaster of Pink Flag has "Dot Dash" on it. AllMusicGuide does have a 2003 reissue of Pink Flag listed on EMI label, so, if there is yet another new remaster of Pink Flag besides the EMI one from a couple of years ago, I'd sure like to know about it. They played a lot of oldies (The Classical, Mere Pseud Mag ed etc) and MES seemed sober as a judge and fresh out of the shower! Best version of the band since Hanley & Scanlon left IMO. Excellent new drummer. Don't think sacking Jim Watts will help though. AYAMW has its moments - notably My Ex-classmates' kids, whcih is fantastic. Gordon from Actin assured me the new one is more like The Unutterable than ATAMW.... Could you explain your enthusiasm about this Tim? From what I understand Drummond has cut up a fine Richard Long photograph in 20000 pieces. It seems just as silly/sad an idea as his burning a million quid. I dunno, to me Drummond seems a bit of a dilettante. It's like he wants to be a conceptual master or contemporary Beuys, but he doesn't convince me at all. More about this @: http://www.ellipsis.com/k Richard Long's work I like enormously though! Amazing to see his art works in nature as well as in museums. Great and timeless stuff. Shame you didn't get the whole work Tim. Maybe it'll make for a nice new positive "work of art" to try and get the original photo back together again. Now wouldn't that be great modernday alchemy?
